I posted recently about Grandpa Ed, (CN: about 3 weeks ago my gpa was having issues breathing, gma took him to ER and they said he'd had a heart attack. The ran some tests and decided to put in a pacemaker).
Since then he's been doing physical therapy and doing okay. His heart is still having an issue that the top half is beating quicker than the bottom, so it's doing this fluttering thing. He was coughing and having a hard time breathing on Tuesday, so gma took him to ER and he's been diagnosed with cogestive heart failure. His heart/lungs are getting liquid in them and his heart has enlarged to be almost double in size. The doctors are going to decide today if he's strong enough for another surgery (it'd be tomorrow and my mom wasn't sure exactly what the surgery would do. He's been on duiretics, which are to rid the body of excess fluid/water). If they decide not to do the surgery, well then it's just a matter of time until he leaves us, could be a few days or maybe a year. My mom said it's uncertain.
He's 89 (I think, which is awful to say, but it's weird...his mom died when he was little and his stepmom was abusive and awful. She through away all of his major documents, so for a while he didn't even know when his bday was).
I'm going to skip the bridal shower I have this wknd for a wedding I'm in and go home to see him. I'm an emotional ball of wreckage and debating whether being at work is good or bad. I was bawling on the train coming here while my mom was talking to me. I haven't really had to "handle" death since my other gpa (who I wasn't as close with as Gpa Ed) passed about 10 yrs ago.
So T&P for Gpa Ed that he's strong enough for this surgery to be okay'd please!
ETA: My mom emailed me this:
Hi,
I went by Dad's hospital room this a.m. on my way to work. He was sitting up was his lively self and was eating breakfast. We talked for about 25 minutes before I had to leave for work. While there, the parish person who passes out communion came and he interacted with her very well. I would have wondered " what's this guy doing in the hospital? He seems great."
The procedure he is having done tomorrow morning is called a CARDIOVERSION. I googled it and found a good article that Mayo clinic has. It wouldn't let me email it but do check it out
Yay!! Good news. Please keep the T&P coming :O)
Re: I need a hug. T&P please! <Updates!

Heavenly Father, I lift up Gpa Ed to you. May your healing hand touch his body. If it is in your will, please give him the strength to undergo surgery. Surround him with your love and comfort him. Please be with the caretakers as well as Hannah and her family. Remove any anxiety they may have and help them to trust that You are in control. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

True, thanks for saying this Xan.
When Ben and I got engaged my gma (Ed's wife) kept asking me what I wanted for a gift, saying that she didn't know if they'd make it to the wedding. They were both in great health at the time and thankfully were able to see the wedding, which was really important to me.
My mom isn't upset right now and similarly said that he's had a great life thus far. She said my gma is doing well too. Both she and my gpa are very spiritual and know that have somewhere they belong other than on this earth. Plus my gma volunteers at the hospital twice a week (she's so sweet:O), so my mom said all of the hospital machines and the hospital in general isn't really scaring her. Which is great.
I've been so blessed to have them both in my life this long! A lot of friends, including DH lost both of their grandparents while in elementary school, if not even before they were born.

Aw Hannah, I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending prayers that he's strong enough to have the surgery and that everything will be alright. I don't mean to sound like debbie-downer, but takes pictures with him this weekend, just to have.
Brooke - you literally gave me chills.
And K-thanks for the pics idea. I know you went through lost recently and appreciate the idea.
