In a weird funk!

First of all, i'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, so please forgive me if it's not!

My sister had her 1st baby on Monday.  I love him SOO much, and i'm so happy and proud for them, but...now i'm in a weird funk!  I don't know how to explain it though..my hubby and I aren't ready to start our own family yet so it's not that..and I know all the attention should be on them right now, as even all my attention is on them!  I just feel...blah.  I guess you could say i'm a bit jealous that all the attention is on them, but I know it should be!  My mom is living with us right now, after living about 3hrs away for the last 5 years, so i've been the one spending time with my sister while pregnant (doing the nursery, shopping, cleaning etc..) and now she comes and I kinda feel like she's stepping on my toes..like I have put in so much time with my sis and her hubby while she's done nothing and now she just swoops in..I know it's her first grandson..I understand that..I just can't help feeling the way I do!

Anyone else experience these feelings?  How'd you get over it other than just saying "get over it"..?

Re: In a weird funk!

  • In what ways do you feel that your mother is slighting you? You haven't explained the situation very well. Could you give more detail? Words/actions that have offended you?
  • I think the "weird" feeling is coming from the fact that you are a little jealous.... more envious... of the attention.... and you don't want to be.... because it is considered "bad"....

I would just give your sister and mom some space to let them do things.... and try and distract yourself..... make plans with friends.... go out on special date nights with your H.

These feelings will eventually level out.  Concentrate on your life.... not on relationship your sister has with your mom right now.

glove slap. I don't take crap.
  • It's a change, a transition in the family dynamic. Coming off the high of being a recent bride, I can see where this would be an adjustment.

You get over it by acknowledging your feelings and moving on.
