Re: HTT/H

  • I don't understand what repurcussions there could be.

I'm pretty sure pictures of Sadam were available.

-- if they don't release this, then they shouldn't take/release pictures of the military personnel bringing home our dead men and women --

eta -- H seems to think that Bin Laden is alive and being tortured.

  • I voted SS. I don't want to see it, but you know if they don't release it there's going to be a big fuss.

  • You bring up interesting points, Kate...

I want to agree with him, something sounds fishy about the whole thing.

  • Vikki/Kate- My mother is in the same camp as you/YH.

    I am torn.

Not that I personally want to see them...but I'm a little weary of the whole thing, I guess. I understand why one may not release them...but...

I also can understand the need to see the physical proof...

  • Sadaam didn't die on our watch. He was tried and hanged in Iraq - that had nothing to do with the United States. Their government released the video of his execution [along with an illegal cell phone recording]...again, nothing to do with the United States.

I don't think they should release the photos. They're gruesome, unnecessary and it won't make anything any better or any different. If people don't believe he's dead, that's fine - but showing the photos to prove it just doesn't sit right with me. It will look like we're gloating to the whole world that we shot this terrorist in the head and, look - here's pictures to prove that our military did it. For those fighting overseas, that could elevate their risk of being shot at [even more] by people who followed Osama just because they wear the same uniform as the people who killed him.

Showing the men/women bringing home our fallen is completely different than showing Osama after the kill shot. Completely different.

Sorry - I've gotten really fired up over this issue [obviously]. This situation has affected Joe, my dad and my family personally because of the whole military thing, and it's freaking me out. I'm not going to argue about this with anyone, and I hope I didn't disrespect anyone's feelings about how you feel. I understand why you feel the way you do. I just want this whole thing to disappear so that I don't have to worry about how this will affect the men in my life.

  • I agree with Ebonie on this one. I don't think it would serve any purpose, and might just cause some kind of retaliation response. The guy was shot in the head for goodness sake - do we even know if he'd be recognizable if they did release a photo?

I say, let dead dogs lie.

ITA, plus anyone who doesn't believe he's dead won't believe photos either. Way too easy to fake. If Bin Laden is alive and free, he'd let it be known just so we didn't have the satisfaction. And if we have him and are torturing him, I may be a horrible person but I can't bring myself to give a sh!t.
  • Either way, conspiracy theorist are going to think they're faked. Nothing will ever be good enough.

  • ITA with L and Ebonie.

  • I feel torn on the issue but overall, I don't see any good that could come from releasing them.  They said the bullet that hit above his left eye took off part of his skull - can't say I'm really wanting to see the actual image of that.

Also, I think it could cause retaliation.  Why risk it?

Also, what Marcy said too - the pictures will never be good enough.  People who think he is alive will believe that, pictures or not.
