The Social Security Administration just released its list of the most popular baby names for 2010, and it's a lot like last year's list -- with Jacob and Isabella leading the pack. And just two new names made the top 10: Aiden and Anthony for boys. (The girls' top 10 is exactly the same as 2009, just in a different order.) Here's the list:
Boys:
1) Jacob
2) Ethan
3) Michael
4) Jayden
5) William
6) Alexander
7) Noah
8) Daniel
9) Aiden
10) Anthony
Girls:
1) Isabella
2) Sophia
3) Emma
4) Olivia
5) Ava
6) Emily
7) Abigail
8) Madison
9) Chloe
10) Mia
Okay, so we're not totally surprised by this list. Want to know what other names are getting trendy? Well, luckily, those peeps over at the SSA also track popularity changes. They found that Bentley, Kellan and Knox had the biggest jumps in rank for boys, and Maci, Giuliana and Tiana are becoming more common for girls.
Thoughts? Care to discuss?

I actually think the girls' list is pretty classic. All of the names on there except Madison and Mia are ones that I really like. I love Emily, Emma, and Ava. All have been on my list at some point.
I wish Jayden would fall off the boys' list. I'm not a fan. My BFF's son is named Jayden and I still don't like the name even though I love the kid. I would never tell her that, though.

Ditto Jo, Madison is probably the most trendy/ newish name- the rest have made a huge comeback in the last decade. I am so mad that some of the names are so popular now!
I also dislike Jayden and any derivitive of the aiden names... my cousin named his son Kayden and it's just way too trendy for me.
Yea, I am not a fan of the Jayden/Aiden and derivatives.
I guess I consider Chloe, Madison, Mia as trendy. Ava and Emma are borderline for me.

I love the name Jayden and have for some time. Unless we come up with something we like better, that'll be our first son's name. Even though it's super popular right now and I have 2 cousin's w/ sons that have similar names (Caden & Aaden). Luckily they aren't cousins I see very often.
I really like the girl's list. I've always loved the name Olivia. A really good friend of mine and I always said whoever had a daughter first was going to use that name. Her Alivia will be 5 in August.

I'm horrified Nevaeh made the top 25.
But "popular" names are much less common than in years past - I sent this quote (can't remember from where) to C yesterday w/ the SS link:
In the 1950s, the top 25 boys' names and top 50 girls' names were given to half of all babies born. Today, it would take the top 134 boys' names and top 320 girls' names to cover half of all babies born

I am also horrified Neveah made the list. Really, moms?! You couldn't come up with anything better?!
I've always loved Ethan, but I don't want to name our potential future son such a popular name. I actually like the fact that Mariela's name with never probably make that list and hopefully we can do that for our future kids. I was telling DH the other day if we have another girl we should name her Hanna after the TS that hit on our wedding day, but I see Hannah in the top 25 and I'm not so sure. Plus, I had a cat named Hannan when I was little. That could get a little weird.
Aidan was on my original baby names list (1997-2003) because my boyfriend at the time loved it for it's meaning. I really didn't care one way or another. His best friend ended up naming his first son that, and then it got really popular, so I don't think he and his wife are considering it anymore.
We go out of our way to find names that aren't popular, since our last name is so common.
2012 Reading Challenge
I really love the name Jacob but it being # on the makes me really rethink it. JT and I have such popular names for when we were born, I don't really want my kid to go through that.
I love classic/old names for kids, part of me really hopes we have a girl so I can name her after my gram, I love the her first name (Rosiland).

Us too, but funny enough, the girl first name that we've agreed on is the same as yours.
