Mother's Day Gift, Opinions please

I suggested to Dh, since May 10th will be the 1 year anniversary of his grandmother's passing, that we donate in her honor to the American Cancer Society as a gift for MIL. She really doesn't need anymore "stuff" and I feel like we always get her gift cards...and I even suggested having a luminary lit in his grandmother's honor at the local Relay for Life, which is coming up this weekend (and IL's usually attend).

Thoughts? Dh seems to think we need to get her "something"...I think this sounds like a perfectly nice idea.

  • I think it's great idea but it depends on what type of person your MIL is. Do you think she would like it and consider it a gift?

The thing is, she is just hard to buy for because her and FIL have so much stuff already. I definitely know she isn't the kind of person to talk about it behind our backs and scoff at the idea...

  • I too think it's a great idea.  If you don't think that she'll talk behind your backs at the lack of an actual "gift" then I would go for it.  It is more meaningfull.

  • I think it's a great idea too. If he wants to get her "something," how about cooking for her or taking her out for a nice meal?
  • I think it's a much nicer gift than what's usually given. If you want to give her something I ditto SM23, or you could get her flowers, a plant, or even a small Starbucks/Jamba etc. gift card.
