What to do in Beaver Bay - Cove Point Lodge
We are going up there this weekend - leaving on Sunday coming home on Tuesday afternoon. I've been searching the internet for things to do up there, but not finding a lot that isn't outdoorsy - hiking and other similar stuff. I know there is Splitrock Lighthouse, which I want to do, but I don't think it opens up for the tour until NEXT weekend (just my luck).
Any idea's on what to do. Like I said, we are not outdoorsy people, so canoeing, hiking, etc. isn't really our thing. But I also don't want to spend the entire time at "the Lodge".
Also restaurant recommendations would be nice too.
Thanks so much.

Re: What to do in Beaver Bay - Cove Point Lodge
I've heard awesome things about the Lemon Wolf Cafe in Beaver Bay (it's right off of 61 in BB), we have yet to eat there yet. But give it a try if you're interested :-)
We are going up there next weekend! Did you get the Groupon? We are actually staying downtown Duluth on Saturday night and Cove Point Lodge on Sunday night. Should be fun - I could use a couple days away!
We are planning on checking out Gooseberry Falls and Splitrock Lighthouse.
Let me know if you find any great stuff to do while you're up there. :-)
I think the primary attraction up that way is the outdoors so your options may be pretty limited unless you drive into Duluth.
If you don't mind driving...
The Scenic Cafe outside of Duluth is very good.
You can walk around Two Harbors. I've never stopped but they have some little shops and restaurants.
There are a lot of shops in Grand Marais. Maybe http://www.northhouse.org/ has a class you could take.
Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
Yes yes yes yes and yes.
It's between Duluth and Two Harbors. I loved our dinner we had there for our anniversary last October! :-)
Here is a map.
Yes, I got the Groupon and then waited too long to call, so all the Saturday's were booked. I was a little grumpy about that, but this will work too. I was also a little grumpy that they won't let you reserve a specific room. It's luck of the draw when you get there. Considering we are paying for a second night, I'd like a say in which room I get, but whatever. I'm sure it will be great no matter what.
I know Duluth is not too far, but do you guys know how far it is? 30 minutes?
Gooseberry Falls and Splitrock Lighthouse are on my list. But the website says the tours for the lighthouse don't open until NEXT weekend. But we can still go and look around, we just can't do the tour.
That happened to us too. My sister actually bought it to use with her boyfriend but they split up so she offered it to me. By the time I called all of the Saturdays were full.
According to Google maps Duluth is about an hour from Cove Point.
We stayed there for our honeymoon.
I highly recommend Bettys Pies for lunch or breakfast and ofcourse pie. Although it's a small hike gooseberry falls is a great little walk and is a great view. We also took a drive up the shore line to blanking the town nap but just on the Canada border. That was fun, breakfast at a great donut shop, shopping etc.

We spent our time in the lodge for the most part, granted the weather was bad and we have a toddler. We went swimming, hot tub, read, played games, watched the lake. . .down time is good
Also- Northern Lights is a great place to grab a bite to eat. It is literally a 2 minute drive, if it is nice you can walk. If you are adventerous they have game on their menu (caribou, elk).
I would skip Betty's Pies and opt for Rustic Inn- I think they have better pies.
The Amish Bakery is next to the Lemon Wolf- good baked goods (cash or check).
A drive to Grand Marias is also nice, weather permiting, with lunch at the Angry Trout.
The interpertive center at Gooseberry will be open and they will have short paved trail to the falls.
Sorry for typos- on bed rest and have to type one handed
Enjoy yourself!
