How do you list your references?

Currently I do this:

First Name Last Name, designations
Company Name
Position Title
Contact Information

However, I'm wondering what to do for 2 of my references.  They were both immediate supervisors of mine at 2 previous jobs, but since then have changed jobs themselves.  One is still in the same field but with a different organization and the other is a SAHM.  Should I put the current info in, the info that was relevant at the time of me working with them or just put names and phone numbers and leave it to the person calling to find out what professional ties they have to me?

Re: How do you list your references?

  • I list out what their current job is. For the SAHM I would just put her name. If they call your references they will ask how they know you. I've never had any of my references called.

Wow, really!  I know for sure with my last job they actually called my references before even interviewing me!  I know because my supervisor at the time immediately came and told me!! LOL

  • with the SAHM I would put her industry...even though its not her current title, it is her profession when she decides to re-enter the work force.
  • When I applied for the current job I had I told my boss at the time that I was looking and he never got any calls. He would have told me if he did.
  • I always include how they are related to me, but in a similar format you have above. For instance, I'd say:

Jane Smith, Former Supervisor at Company A
    Their Current Company Name

    or

Jane Doe, Former Co-Worker at Company B
    Their Current Company Name

New Name, Old Nestie Blog: Career Girl Network
  • I would use their current information in the format that you had listed. I also split mine into professional and personal references (some overlap a bit for me though).
