Seriously, I'm sitting here in shock. My best friend just texted me that she returned a camera she bought 5 years ago and got a FULL refund on it. Seriously? She returned some pots & pans recently that she got for her wedding almost 5 yrs ago and got a full refund on those as well.
DH and I talked about this and we cannot bring ourselves to do this. Can you?
ETA: She returned a jacket that she wore for multiple years because she was tired of it and the company stopped making the zip in fleece for it that she wanted.
Re: Do you return things?
She returned 5 year old stuff and got FULL refunds?! OMG.
I can't even bring myself to return clothes I buy online that I don't particularly like, let alone stuff from years ago that I've used.

Yeah, I love her to death but I don't know how she does it. She does this at restaurants too... love her but hate to eat out with her. She gets what she wants though! I really want her to do some wheeling and dealing for us because we can't bring ourselves to return anything.
BBB for pots/ pans... Camera- Costco... Jacket was EMS or something like that.
I have used LLBeans return policy before-- because they clearly state theirs.
5 YRS ago? wtf?
I do return things - I can't afford to keep stuff I buy online (or in store) that isn't RIGHT. But only clothes really. What else would i buy and not be sure about?
If I am returning something, its b/c its defective, doesn't fit, still has tags on, etc. I would never consider returning something 5 years old unless it had a warranty.
I returned a set of sheets we got as a wedding gift like a year and a half after the wedding. But to be fair, I didn't open them til we moved into our new house and they pilled after one wash. Macy's gave me a store credit as they were from our registry. I also returned my crockpot b/c it cracked and I got a new one - also a year and a half later, though I'd only used it about 4 times.
I only return stuff if it is defective. I returned/exchanged a coat to LL Bean because the lining ripped after one season and I feel like their stuff should hold up better than that. But like you said, that is their policy - satisfaction, GUARANTEED. hah.
I found out that SIL returnes like 99% of the gifts MIL gives her. I don't know how she does it. MIL always claims to have gift receipts but makes you ask for them and I can never bring myself to do it. She is always getting me gifts that are too small, I think b/c she doesn't want to offend me by getting my real size, but in what world am I a medium?
If it is LL Bean or REI and it is their policy to accept returns on used merchandise if I'm not happy with it for any reason, then yes, I will. That's part of the reason I'm in the REI coop, and part of the reason I'd pay more to shop there. However, we got Simon a dog bed from Bean almost 3 years ago that has holes in it, and we're not returning that because he is rough with it.
If it is new with tags I will return if within the policy. If it is defective after a couple of uses I would probably try to return it, too, although I've had good luck just calling the company directly (the Mr. Iced Tea pitcher cracked and they sent a new one free of charge). In my opinion, returning something that's been used for years because you're tired of it is stealing.
2012 Reading Challenge
My MIL got me SMALL pj pants for my birthday the year I had P (his birthday is 6 days before mine) from the JUNIORS department. I was in a jrs large at my lowest adult weight. Her daughters are all petite so that's what she's used to and I know she didn't do it to make me feel bad, but it does.
My mom, on the other hand, always gives me a larger size than I wear, she says because my chest is bigger than hers.
Also makes me feel bad.
I think the lesson here is to not buy me clothes! Now they just buy clothes for P to get it out of their system, and buy house or sewing stuff for me. Problem solved!
2012 Reading Challenge
I take full advantage of the LL Bean return policy and I'm always getting something else from them, like a new jacket, etc.
I rarely return things unless they're broken or I changed my mind but I have a receipt.
I could never pull that off even if I tried and I would feel super guilty.

If I've used it multiple times, then no I won't return it.
We returned 2 humidifiers after using them both once because they just didn't work well.
That is crazy
I mostly return clothes, I have a lot of buyers remorse and I'll get home and realize that I have something just like it, or very similar in my closet than I'll return it. I've tried to be better,as stores track habitual returners...
I returned a lot of wedding/shower gifts that we just didn't need. I did return a chip set at BBB when it broke, but only b/c when I called to find out where I could get a replacement they told me to just bring it in, and they'd replace it. I do take advantage of LL Bean's policy when I need to.
I don't think I could return something after 5 years and I've used it! What do you possibly say to the sales clerk?
This. I would just feel wrong doing what she did. Also, I can't stand the people at the restaurant that find things wrong with their food after they ate most of it, return the crumbs, order something else, then complain and get the whole thing free.
