Eyebrows - Wax or Thread?

Soooo, I had an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed yesterday and I totally spaced and missed it.  Now, I've got some medium sized caterpillars on my face and would like to tame them.

I've got a lovely combination of thick hair and sensitive skin, so when I get my brows waxed my face stays red and puffy for hours.  Seeing as I've got a sushi date tonight, I'd like to minimize the redness, or at least get them done as early as I can to give it time to subside.

In the past I've always waxed, but I've heard good things about threading.  And, there's a threading place within an easy walking distance for my gimpy foot (and right beside an awesome organic grocery store so I can get some lunch too....)

So, what do you guys think?  Who's gotten threading done before?  Do you prefer it over waxing?  How does the skin irritation compare?

Re: Eyebrows - Wax or Thread?

  • I'm in the same boat--thick hair, sensitive skin and waxing makes me red and puffy like whoa. Threading does, too, but I'm not as red and puffy. By night the redness and puffiness has gone down quite a bit (though it still feels a bit tender to the touch). They use witch hazel on me after the threading, and that seems to help soothe my skin.

I much prefer threading. Seems to last longer for me, too.

  • I used to wax, but then I tried threading and I much prefer it.  I find it more painful, but for me there's hardly any redness or irritation afterwards and I think it creates a much more defined shape.  I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Sweet.  I think I'll give it a try.  I talked to the only other 20-something girl here at work and she's had her underarms done at this place before.  She said there's always a line up for brows, so it must be good, right?

  • I always always get mine threaded - I swear by it. Initially, it hurts like a biitch and yes, the area is red. But like anything, the more consistent you are about keeping up with the threading the better it gets. Now it doesn't hurt so much and I get general redness for about five minutes, then I'm good to go.

Annnnnd, I ended up with waxing.   The guys were driving to the mall at lunch, so I just stopped in there.  She put some stuff on that's greatly reduced the redness, so maybe I'll try the threading next time.

Alix, anywhere in Oakville you'd suggest for threading?  I was just going to swing by the little Indian (?) salon in the Organic Garage plaza on Kerr.

  • I know nowhere in Oakville, sorry. I've been going to a total hole in the wall Indian place in Mississauga (Creditview and Bristol) since high school.
