so I took boo to the vet today. They didn't want to run the stool sample I'd brought in, they said they would if I insisted, but that since these issues had been going on for so long, that it was really unlikely they'd find any worms or anything.
The vet we saw today was supportive of us looking into a more holistic diet, and although he had never heard of Woody's, asked me to let them know our experience so they'd be able to pass it on to other patients.
He did say that if we continued to have problems long term, they'd want to take some biopsies to see if there is something else going on with her gut.
So, then we headed down to woody's. The woman working (we went to St. Paul) spent 45 minutes with us, talking about how to transition, etc and sent us home with chicken and then a couple of samples to try in a couple of weeks. We also got probiotics there.
I was really impressed with the time she spent explaining things, now I just hope it works!
Re: pet people: an update
Yes, good luck! I hope it works out.
That's great that your vet is supportive of a more natural diet! Most of the vets where I go are pretty ambivalent about it.

he did have his reservations, but was at least open to us trying it. His biggest concern was the fat content.
He was not as supportive of us cooking our own food, because of the fat content issues as well. (but if it's working for our dog, I don't care if they're supportive, lol).
My thoughts exactly.

That's strange that they weren't supportive of you cooking your own food, because the two vets we have had for our boys have always recommended it, and advocated it especially when we told them we wouldn't feed them any science diet or other crap. When Kaiser develops more allergies (as he will as he ages) we'll probably have to go on a fully home cooked diet.
Glad things are working out though and you hopefully got some answers.
I think they just worry that someone is going to cheap out, buy the cheapest possible (aka higher fat content) beef, fry it up with some oil and throw in some minute rice. I did tell him that we'd be working with someone who knows canine nutrition if we decide to go that route and that seemed to ease some of his concern.

It's only been a few days, but so far so good. Boo gobbles up her food with the whole food in it.
We are experiencing a lot of what they told us to expect the first couple weeks though - HORRIBLE gas. OMG, it's awful!

Really well! We've been there twice now, once with each dog.
They prescribed melatonin for Jenson - to help with his hair loss/regrowth. He also had a hookworm parasite (discovered that at our 'regular' vet about a week before his LHV appt) so I think between the meds to clear up the hookworm and the melatonin I think we are getting things in control. He isn't losing any more hair, and some of his patches that were down to the skin are starting to fill in.
Chloe is on a hydrangea (I think...) extract-thing that they prescribed for her bladder issues, we need to have her urine re-checked in a week or so more to see if that has helped with the pH issues.
We are now feeding them Natural Balance L.I.D. Potato & Duck - which I know some on the pet's board wouldn't support/like - but it's the only food we've found so far that doesn't give our dogs diarrhea. So - we are happy with it. LHV supported the dog food switch to that.
