I miss chewing

I had a cavity filled almost 3 weeks ago (3 weeks on Monday) and I still can't chew on that side.  It's soo painful if I bite down on something and flossing brings me to tears!  I already have an appointment with the dentist scheduled, but it's not until the end of May.  ugh.

On the plus side, it forces me to eat very slowly and causes me to eat less...which is definitely NOT a bad thing!

Re: I miss chewing

  • That sucks.  I hope you feel better soon.
  • yikes! i'm sorry. that's a long time to not feel good.

  • Is there any way you can get it moved up? If you tell them you're actually in pain they should be able to get you into one of the emergency slots. You could have exposed nerve which can be very damaging to the tooth.

  • What did they tell you about the cavity? More than likely the exposed the nerve when drilling and didnt realize. Theyll probably pull that material out, put in a temporary sedative and fill on top. In the mean time  try clove oil on your gums and tooth or a warm tea bag. Get yourself a cup of tea and when youve steeped the bag give it a squeeze and lie it on the tooth and close down

I was just about to suggest this. I've had this happen with a few fillings. Now, when my dentist does a deep filling, he uses a medicated packing and puts a temporary filling in over it. It definitely sounds like an irritated nerve. Call them in the morning and tell them you're in a good deal of pain. You don't want the nerve to get too irritated.
