Meijer... question

this isn't like costco/bjs where I have to pay for a membership to shop, right?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've never been there... don't know how to pronounce it either :)  haha

Re: Meijer... question

  • Nope, don't need a membership.  Just be prepared for the crazies if you're going there today!  Meijer is my own personal version of hell, but I hate grocery shopping anyway, so it's probably not as bad as I make it out to be.  :)

  • I agree weekend shopping can be nutty there (especially when I am on my own, for some reason my patience is even thinner then). DH and I find it less annoying before noon, but we really prefer it to anywhere else right now.

  • It is pronounces like My-er. Meyer is the anglicized spelling of Meijer.

No membership required.  You don't even need a little savings card like a lot of other stores make you sign up for these days just to get their advertised sales.  I prefer to shop at Meijer for the most part because they usually have pretty good sales and since they have general merchandise it's like a one-stop-shop for me.

Like others have said though, it can get a bit nuts on the weekend, so the aisles are like hell and they hardly ever have enough cashiers working.  If you can, try going anytime during the week and you'll save tons of time and frustration.

  • They have a new thing where you can clip coupons online and save them to an account and when you check out you just provide your cell # and all your coupons will be applied. I've never used it, but it seems pretty neat https://www2.meijer.com/mperks/#2

  • It's kind of like a super walmart, but better. I also recommend that from your location you go south on Canton Center into Belleville and go to the one there. It's not as nutty as the one in Canton (I have been to both).
  • I heart Meijer.  Big time.
