when is it safe to plant flowers?

When is it considered generally safe to plant flowers (or veggies) in pots and the ground around here? I'm dying to spruce up our backyard!!

  • We typically wait until Memorial weekend.  Then we know we won't have a freeze.

  • You can plan pansies really early- even in April. They are very hardy and can make it through spring snows I've been told.

  • If you plan to do perennials, you'd probably be ok doing them now.  I'd wait until around Memorial Weekend for annuals.
  • Thanks ladies... I wasn't sure if it was the same as NY or not. Guess so!  :)

  • Eastern Market's flower day is next Sunday! BF and I will be venturing down there for some veggie plants and to check out any other flower deals we can find. Might be something fun for you to check out!
  • I plant my vegetable garden every year on Mothers day and it has been fine the past 4 years (even with a light frost).  I plant Regular tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, wax beans, jalepenos and bell peppers.  I would wait to plant annuals until after memorial day.
