Anyone know...

... why nobody uses a cradle anymore?

I just saw one on a retro show and I remember my sister using the one my great-grandfather built for her doll when we were kids. But now, I never hear of anyone using one?

Just curious...

Re: Anyone know...

  • I'm betting it's some sort of safety issue.  Nothing is safe for babies, according to consumer reports.

  • My SIL used one for her DD. But that's the only person I know who used one. I don't know why people don't use them much anymore.

  • Some brilliant person probably rocked it too hard and the baby fell out.  At some point walkers will probably be phased out too because they are considered dangerous, almost always because of a supervision issue like lettig your kid use it near the stairs.
  • We have a cradle that FIL made for us but we didn't use it too much because it requires human action to make it rock and it was so much easier to put DD in the battery powered swing.  It was also his first try at making a cradle and he didn't put in any kind of a lock to keep it from swinging, so when DD would roll to one side the cradle would tilt sideways and smoosh her into the side.
