Weekend ramblings- How's your weekend?

1. My sister apologized for her reaction the other day. Everyone is coming to our house for Mother's day tomorrow. I got everyone beautiful flowers and ended up buying myself a small thing of pink tulips.

2.  We went to my parents to celebrate my grandmother's 85th birthday today. Yeah. Um, it sucked. My grandmother is not the warm and fuzzy grandmother and treats my mother horribly (and me/sister as well sometimes) and well, she made my mom cry. Which made my dad furious. And all of this made me almost cry. I feel awful for my mom. But now I understand why my mother has been down lately and why I think she's been overly snappy towards my sister.

3. I am ordering chinese food for the first time in about 6 months. I have had NO desire to eat it until randomly today.

4. I got a facial and prenatal massage yesterday (thank you H for the bday gift!!) and the masseuse at the end when they hand you water asks "So...what's going on with your arms!?" And I was like...um.... and she says, "Well, you have some serious triceps and biceps going on!" And I was ECSTATIC. That even though you can't see them, my working out is still paying off.  And PS, the facial and massage were A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.(Marcy, go to Bella Sante when you come here!!).

5. I caught up with an old friend yesterday and am so sad for her. She told me her and her H basically had to start IVF immediately about 7-8 months ago and have had absolutely no luck- and the doctors are very hesitant to tell her there is hope at all for her. All she wants is to start a family. I feel awful.

Re: Weekend ramblings- How's your weekend?

  • Aww, I feel so bad for your mom! What the heck did your grandma say to her?

Our weekend has been good so far. We went for a long walk this morning that pretty much wiped me out for the day but I managed to get laundry done. We also put up the Eiffel Tower decal and the stars in the nursery. Yay for having that done!

DH's big plan for Mother's Day was to take me to the next town over (because I wanted to go to the Target there), and have dinner and go see Water for Elephants. Well, apparently he got the theaters mixed up and they weren't playing it anymore so we saw Something Borrowed instead. Cute movie but pretty predictable. I still want to see Water for Elephants though! And I totally over-ate, but I'm ok with that. I've been super good lately so I figured it's ok this once. Big Smile

  • So far so good!

Last night we ran around picking up last minute stuff for today's Derby Day party and then I baked a pecan pie & a Kentucky Derby pie before going to bed.

This morning, I got up and went to work, while Eric got up and got stuff ready for the party.  I left work at 11:30, ran to the shoemaker to pick up shoes I'd left to be repaired and drop off boots that need a new zipper, then to the supermarket to pick up the veggie & fruit platters.

Got home, and helped E finish getting ready, and then people started coming over at 2.  Had a lot of people here, including kids, and it was awesome to see my nephew interacting with my friends' kids and honorary nephew.  The highlight, though (is this terrible when my sis & nephew were here?) was that Vikki & Doug came down for the party!  Turns out it's just 80 miles, which I can travel for court on a daily basis - not bad!  Unfortunately, they hit brutal traffic and then got tangled up a couple towns from here, but the finally made it and it was so fun to actually meet them.  Eric loves them.

6:15 was post time, and we had a little bet going - they won 1st place, which got half the pot.  Hopefully the $30 helped pay for the gas they used driving around in circles.  Wink

The party ended just a short time ago, and my throat is killing me.  I was sick earlier this week, and though I'm better now, my throat was a casualty of the cold and never really healed.  With all of the talking I did today, it's really suffering.  Knives in my neck.

Tomorrow we're meeting the sis, BIL, nephew, and parents for brunch at 2 p.m., then my friend Kerry, who's a reiki master, is coming over to try and help my throat.

    Then sleep!  Lots of sleep!

  • Oh, and by the way, I'm sorry about your grandmother.  My maternal grandmother was an infernal hag who treated my mother like sh!t and tried to turn me and my dad against her.  I told her basically to take a hike.  My family spent years not talking to the b!tch and were so much better off for it my mother only got back in touch when she found out my grandmother had breast cancer.

[As an aside, the hag didn't want us to know about it, despite the fact that it matters to OUR health as well, that it's in the family.]

I only put up with her for my mother's sake, because my mother wanted so badly to have a relationship with her mother.  Wasn't worth it.  In the end, my grandmother died alone with no friends or family.  Serves her right.

  • Pretty good. Two of my high school friends came to visit, so did DH's cousin, wife and 5 mo old daughter. Bonus, house is cleaner than it's been in a while, lol. I also got a nap today and Carly just slept for six hours! Woo hoo! Hoping that she eats and goes right back down :)
  • Well you know what we did Saturday Wink

But we had a great time, unfortunately like Larissa said we got stuck in brutal traffic, I swear everyone in CT was leaving yesterday and it took us over two hours to get there, and got lost even with two different GPS' in the car and mapquest directions.

Going home was another story, we had no traffic at all and didn't get lost (thanks to Larissa's good directions) even the GW Bridge had no wait..which is a miracle in itself.  And we made it home in a little less than 90 minutes, it was an easy drive.

Today we're getting ready to head out to the gym and then go grocery shopping and visit my Mom later this afternoon/evening.

  • How cool Larissa and Vikki met!  I finally got to meet Jenny on Tuesday after 3 years :)  I think Ebonie and I are meeting on Saturday too, yay!

Um, my big thing this weekend was my test scores.  Top that off that I took my last test in Practicum and got a 91 (never made above an 83 on those tests before).  Found out the final in the class is either going to be our highest test grade or she's just going to give us some easy short answer questions.

Taking my last test today (outside of the aforementioned final).  I'm soooo excited!  It's finally setting in that I'm pretty much done.  Got my cap and gown this weekend too.  Soooooo excited!

  • Friday I spent the day at the Shore with my dad and my mom came home after work.

The Shore is Jersey Speak for the beach. My parents live at the beach. Went to dinner with them and gave my mom her Mothers Day gift (gift certificate to a spa).

Saturday I had wanted to go to the beach, but Greg vetoed it, so I laid out and read a book most of the day. Last night I headed out to a bar to meet my BFF's new man and then went to Greg's sister's house to watch the boxing match.

Today we ran a bunch of errands in the morning, I bought myself some new perfume and eye shadow primer at Sephora and then went to a nursery to buy my MIL flowers for her garden.

    7:20am doctors appointment tomorrow...ugh...wtf was I thinking???

Hope all the mommies had wonderful Mother's Days!!!

  • Yesterday, we went to our friend's graduation, from our alma mater. Her husband organized a surprise party for her this afternoon. We grilled hot dogs and burgers and sat outside in the mid-90s heat (though we had shade and a breeze, so it wasn't that bad). It was fun. Nate loved trying to play soccer with the 3 big kids (and dads...).

Rodgers asked me last week what I wanted for Mother's Day. I told him I wanted someone to cook me lunch, and I wanted a nap. I got both (plus dinner at the surprise party as a bonus)! Rodgers is off today and tomorrow, but working this Tues through next Tues with no day off. Was nice to have him here for Mother's Day.

Rodgers is putting Nate in bed now, and we're just cooling off from spending the afternoon outside. He got an iTunes gift card for his birthday, so I'm helping him decide what music to get.

  • Well Friday was decently uneventful.

Saturday we went to DH's sister's graduation, then out to eat with the family and some of her friends. After that, I took DH home and went to my future sis-in-law's bachelorette party.

Today, I had to work.. we were super busy and I was super tired because I didn't get back to town until 3 am and had to work at 8 lol.. Then we went to the dog park for a while, came home, then DH cooked dinner and did the dishes while I started laundry.

  • Saturday, we went to my bestfriend's house because she had a party for her birthday. We didn't end up getting home until 230am.

Sunday, we woke up at 630am and I dropped hubby off at work around 745. Then I headed over to my parents house and got my littlean dressed for church. After church we chilled at my parents house until hubby got off from work, then we went out to dinner with my parents and brothers. After dinner we went to the inlaws for a little while. It was a very very exhausting day!

I think for Father's Day we are going to church then having people come to us. It's too tiring to go all around visiting everyone. Blah!
