Extremely painful sex...

Embarrassing for me to talk about, but things have been so uncomfortable in the bedroom that I can't have intercourse.

Yes I know I need to see a doc and I will call her first thing in the morning. I just wanted to reiterate that...but here are my symptoms.

(1) On again, off again infections since I switched to YAZ. I spoke with my doc at my 1 year check up last month and she said to give it more time since I've only been on this pill for 6 months.

(2) Stabbing pain both upon insertion and once inside. Unless the penis is super deep closer to my cervix, then it will be pleasurable based on the position. In general, 90% of the whole thing is excruciating pain.

(3) Some itching, but no abnormal discharge.

(4) I just ended my period last week. Could it be a change in hormones? We use lube when necessary which seems like all the time.

Any ideas on what this could be? I've had issues in the past with insertion, but then it gets better almost immediately. Now it is impossible to even have sex.

Re: Extremely painful sex...

  • You are on the right track with the doctor's appointment.  You could have an infection that is causing you to have discomfort.  Make sure your obgyn runs a full battery of tests.

Yaz could be affecting your hormones and making your vagina more hospitable to infections.   If you want to change bcp, do it.

So I just go in and say I want it done and almost demand it? I was pretty firm at my last apt and she really thought I needed to stick it out.

  • Anytime I have gone in for my annual and had problems with previous BCP my doctor would talk me through my symptoms and give me something else. Mine have mostly been general cramps and migraines, but I don't see why your Doc would force you to stay on a pill that might be causing it.

Is there some important reason for you to be on *that* brand?  Did she give you a reason why she thought that brand was best for you?  If there isn't a reason (like the PMDD they talk about in the commercials) I would probably be firm and say "It's just not working for me.  Can we try another brand/go back to what I was using before?"

And if you aren't satisfied, go to another obgyn.  If you mentioned the painful sex to her at your last appointment and she didn't seem concerned, I would change docs.

  • the excruitiating pain you're describing almost sounds like pelvic inflammatory disease , or PID.  Is it just with sex or are you having any lower abdominal pain  at rest?  Any discharge or fevers? PID can be caused by an infection caused by IUDs, tampons, STIs, or simply normal flow of bacteria up into your pelvic organs--and it could potentially be very damaging if not treated.   I would def call a gyne ASAP to know for sure what is going on....not sure you have ALL the classic symptoms that would warrant a PID workup, but the severe pain is concerning.  Sorry you're going through this, good luck and keep us posted!
  • YOu could have anything from intervestibular cystitis to a yeast infection to vaginisimus. Only your doc can make a diagnosis.

If you are not comfortable with the diagnosis you get from your current doc, get a second -- and even a third opinion. Good luck.

  • This is so weird, I'm going through the exact same thing and have been for almost 10 months now and it all started with me being on YAZ.  I hate the stuff. I was on it for 2 months and was having the worst side effects in the world so I got off.  Unfortunately I think the damage had been done.  I tried a different BC but that too caused lots of pain.  Let me know what your doctor says, I'd be interested to know
  • Thanks all! I have an appt. on Wednesday and will report back. I was hoping to get another doc, but I'm going to see my regular lady. If she still acts like a douche then I am going to request a new primary doc next time.
