Casey Anthony Jury Selection

It's taking place across the street from my office and the three ring circus has begun!  The helicopters started almost an hour ago and have just been hanging out above my building.  This should be an interesting couple of weeks around here.  I saw the news vans pulling in as I passed by the courthouse this morning.

It's kind of funny watching people pull up in the parking lot outside.  You can tell that they don't know what's going on as they try to figure out why helicopters are hovering above.  One office mate thought someone had escaped from jail this morning!

Let the games begin!  I'm very thankful that I'm not a Pinellas county resident who has jury duty to report to this morning.  I would be fearful of getting selected for the trial!

Re: Casey Anthony Jury Selection

  • I was obsessed with all of that when it was going on because I was living in Orlando.  I think that trial would be sooo interesting!!!

  • My mom works in the building next to the Orange County Court House in Orlando and any time anything is going on with her case it turns into a zoo.

Also the Lisa Nowak case was another crowd drawer.

Thank goodness you dont have jury duty today!

  • DAMN!  I heard on the radio this morning that it was taking place in Pinellas.  I was so bummed,.  I wanted it to be here in Polk since my hubby is always at the courthouse lol.  I know, a little stalkerish, but I am SO interested in this case!

I would love to be a fly on the wall at that jury selection. It has gotten so much publicity, it's going to be so tough to find an impartial jury. And I read they're going to transport the jurors to Orlando to stay in hotels for the 2-month trial? Yikes. I'm sure it will be such a weird combination of people dying to get off the case b/c of the time commitment (it always is for that long of a trial) and people wanting to get on to be a part of the circus. Add to all that the death-qualification issues and it's going to be quite a process. I hope they have a huge jury pool and I hope the lawyers are ready! I wonder if they're using jury consultants, does anyone know?

I could be wrong but I *think* I read in the Orlando Sentinel that the trial will be held some where in North Florida.  I could be wrong though.

What's crazy is Casey Anthony lived about 5 miles from my parents.  She didn't go to my High School, but still it's weird to turn on the news here in Texas and see footage of my old stomping grounds.

Oh really? Well, either way they're going to have to transport the jurors and put them in hotels, and it's going to be hell to try to find people who are okay with not only being out of work for 2 months, but being away from their homes and families, too. And who don't already think she's guilty. Yikes.

Crazy she lived so close to you! I was recently working on a case in which both the victim and her friend (who was involved with the victim's husband) were from Pinellas County (went to the same HS as my BIL & SIL) and the "friend" still allegedly lives in Tampa. That trial is being held in Illinois. It was crazy to be working on a case in NYC for a trial in IL having to do with people from my home town in FL. How does that even happen?

  • Nope, you're right.  The trial will be held in Orlando.  Haha.  My mom is going to HATE driving to work until that fiasco is over.  She shares the same parking garage with the court house.  Oh lord.

And according to the Orlando Sentinel, the trial is due to start next week.  I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of this case.  While I haven't heard all of the evidence, I assume she is guilty.  It will be interesting to see if she is given the death penalty.

I'm watching this on the news right now and it doesn't mention if they are using consultants, but there is currently a pool of 110 potential jurors.

110! That's not very many at all! Hopefully they have more waiting in the wings. I'm sure they do, otherwise they are very optimistic.

I wish I could watch, too! It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

  • I agree 110 is not very many.  Pinellas County is not "that" far from home and I would put my money that there are 110 people sitting there thinking she is guilty right now.  The news said they are confident they will be ready to go by Tuesday.  I call they it is a few months.

  • This will be so interesting to see what happens.  It cannot be easy to find jurors that have not formed an opinion about the case yet, especially so close to where it all happened!

You would be surprised how many morons are out, living among the educated.
