He's here...

Just wanted to let you all know that Kade became a big brother.  Krew Eric was born Wednesday @ 2:24pm.  He was 8.12 lbs, 19 1/2 inches long.  I went in at 830am for a checkup, was dialed to a 7 so they sent me over to the hospital.  They gave me an epidural at noon and came in and checked me @ 2:11.  She told me to do a test push and told me to stop instantly bc she had to get everything ready.  After 2 seconds of pushing, he was born, and I now understand why my midwife didn't want me going back home after the appointment :)

Baby K is doing really good, just wants to sleep A LOT.  We're trying to bf with this little guy and it doesn't seem to be going as smoothly as I hoped it would.  I'm clueless with the BF'ing thing but am trying to do some research.  Any helpful hints or pointers would be hugely appreciated.

    Congratulations!!

As far as breastfeeding, the best advice I can give you is to seek the help of a lactation consultant.  Some insurances will even cover a home visit or two, otherwise your midwife should be able to put you in contact with one if she doesn't do that herself.  I think both Mercy and Methodist also have breastfeeding support groups.  I know I heard great things about the one at Methodist.  No matter what you do, don't give up until you talk to a professional!  Its hard work, but so worth it in the end.

  • Congratulations! Wow I can't imagine walking around dilated to a 7! You must be one tough girl!
As far as breastfeeding, we dealt with extreme sleepiness with Ella since she was pretty jaundiced and on the bili blanket for a week. My advice is to just keep at it and do whatever you can to keep him awake. We had to strip Ella to just her diaper for all feedings so that she wasn't all warm and snuggly, tickled her feet, etc. It was hard at first because she couldn't last longer than 3-5 minutes without falling asleep. We ended up waking her every two hours around the clock for the first few weeks per the pedi to make sure she was getting enough. Hang in there- it gets SO much easier! :)

Hang in there with the breastfeeding! You are doing a great job! The best thing you can do it just keep at it around the clock for a while.

Congrats!!! Sounds like an exciting birth :)
  • Congratulations! Enjoy this special time.
Happy mom to two sweet, silly boys: Cohen age 4, AJ age 2.
  • Congratulations!

I suggest using the LC's as much as possible while you're there.  After leaving I also talked to them on the phone several times and went to the Mommy & Me groups twice a month.  I don't think I would have been able to continue without their help.  Hang in there....it does get easier!

  • Aww congratulations!

At 7 cm I had been in labor for 25 hours so I hate you already ;)  Kidding, of course!  You're amazing though!!!

I hope the BFing gets easier for you.

  • Congrats!!!

We have that name (Krue) picked out for a boy. I had never heard the name before but last month a college friend named her son Krew and now you did too. It's becoming popular!
