Let me start by saying that my MIL and I are not close. Not that we don't like each other, it's just that we have nothing in common. We're polite at family events but that's pretty much it. Mother's Day was at MIL's apartment (about 900 sq. ft, of which the bedroom was shut off). We thought it would just be a few extended relatives (Grandma and Aunt). There were over 20 people in this little space, and the temperature was kept at 80 degrees! We live in Houston! MIL always has it hot so she can save on the electric bill but it was awful.
I have two SIL's (SIL A and SIL
, and SIL B has an almost 2 year old daughter. SIL A is always kinda crazy, and I knew I was in for an interesting day when she walked in with spandex booty shorts and hooker heels. On Mother's Day! Anyways, SIL B's two year old pushed another kid and SIL A slapped her on the arm. I was like, "WHHHAAATTTTT???" Of course nobody said anything and dh and I just looked at each other. Then SIL A was cussing up a storm about all sorts of stuff (one thing was how sure she is their 10 year old cousin will end up in a gang). Apparently just recently niece learned the word b*tch. Nobody can figure out how.
There was a lot more crud that happened that I can't even remember right now. Oh, and I will dd this later.
Any crazy mother's day stories from anyone else?
Re: Mother's Day with the In-Laws
are you sure we are not related? wow! what a day!!! That is why we did our own thing for mothers day.
This is exactly why we avoid my ILs on all holidays. But my ILs are dirty, loud, and certified crazy (ALL of them are on psych meds- including the kids). At least DH and I are united on the front that we spend as little time with his family as possible- I probably would have had an anxiety attack in that apartment!
Sorry you had to go through all of that
