ticks...

Just went for a walk for an hour.  Between the dog and me, I've counted 40 ticks so far.  FORTY!  And that's not including the ones my dog ate off of herself (she's so helpful).  I've heard that Wells is the center of the tick problem...geez...this is out of control.  This is the only thing I hate about living in Maine.

  • 40?! That's insane. I need to remember to call the vet tomorrow to the dog some Frontline. I keep forgetting.

  • I'm just thankful we don't have a whole lot of them up here... another reason I like living in the county.

  • 40!? Yikes that's crazy!

Finn (our pup) has had two since we moved up here, but we gave him Frontline a couple weeks ago and I haven't seen any since. I'm not as worried about him as I am about our cats - I pet/touch Finn all the time and would find a tick quickly, but if he brings them inside, they could get to our (indoor) cats and I might never find ticks on them.

Ugh now I feel all creepy-crawly.

  • WHOH!!! That is nuts!!!! We have only seen one tick at our house in thee last year, though our dog is on frontline every month and I don't think we have many in the area anyway.

  • I hate chemicals like everyone else, but we actually put chemicals on our lawn to kill off the ticks and bugs. Now that we've been doing that, we haven't had a single tick on Digs (knock on wood). But we also use K9 Advantix and the combination has done wonders.

  • Are you using Frontline or something on your dog?  That seems like an awful lot of ticks!

Yes, we're religious about frontline.  Frontline doesn't prevent the ticks from from crawling on our dog though.  Wells is one of hte top areas in the state for ticks.  lucky us.

  • Oh my lord! Thank you for reminding me to pick up Frontline for my babies. My Honey dog tested positive for Lyme at her annual exam this winter, but fortunately the blood test showed the levels were very low and she is at minimal risk to develop the actual disease. But I've never seen a single tick on her. 40 just blows my mind.
  • For Digs, Frontline did nothing. We switched to Advantix and we haven't had as many problems. So, if one of them isn't working for your critters, think about switching around to find one that will.

Us too! Frontline wasn't doing anything and I think I read online somewhere that the ticks may be developing a resistance to it (I could be making that up though.) We switched to Advantix and it's much better. We still find a few on him each year, but it's not bad at all.
