Food Allergies?

My little one loves humus and has enjoyed it for the past month.  Yesterday we gave him some to feed himself and it of course ended up all over his face.  We thought so cute...when I wiped his face after dinner, his face looked stained red in all the areas where the humus was touching.  The exact shapes of the humus mess all over him, even on his chest where it had touched his skin.  I cleaned him up and of course called my pediatrician...It cleared up in 20 minutes from being super red.  He was acting normal and playful the entire time.  It didn't seem to bother him (no scratching, crying). Anyone else experience anything like this before?

Yep. Nicholas used to get a little red irritation when peanut butter or cinnamon touched his face. No issues for over a year now, though. Was there anything a little spicy in the hummus (red pepper?). Hopefully it's just a sensitivity due to young skin and he outgrows it.
  • It might have been an irritant more so than an allergy. Did the humus have flavor? it could have been a seasoning in the actual humus.

Is he all better from his strep? (El didn't get it, even after her and O shared sippys) LOL

  • Kellen did have this- several times with different foods that were previously okay.  I have been re-introducing slowly, and some are okay, and some still give him the outbreak/irritation.

  • DS1 couldn't do hummus either..at least not on his skin.. He would get red/welty with contact.  I think it's the sesame.. as I have noticed it with other items including sesame.

  • He is feeling much better...now just dealing with the humus...it didn't have any seasoning in it, just plain...I'm hoping it was just his skin being sensitive...anywho, we are testing him to see if it's the sesame.  I will keep you posted. :)  We should have a play date soon. :)
  • I'm hoping it's just sensitive skin...poor buddy.

  • G-man would get red patches on his face from fat free dressing.  He would want some of what we were eating and of course it would end up on his face.  I tried to keep the dressing away from him.  It doesn't bother him now.
