Visiting Philly next week for work - where to eat & what to do?

I will be in Philly from Sunday through Thursday for work & am staying at a hotel near the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  Any suggestions on restaurants?  I may have a little free time while I am there, so any suggestions on things to do would be great!

  • you'll want to do reading terminal market for lunch.

and as the resident history nerd. i suggest checking out the history stuff in old city if you have never been.

  • depending on what time you get in, you should hoof it over to the Italian Market (9th and Christian area) for the second day of the Italian Mkt festival on sunday.

  • market street is all hustle and bustle near the convention center. its loud.

the big castle at the corner of market and broad is city hall and its a cool building.

next to it on market is Macys. at noonish they play a giant pipe organ and its a nice free thing to see.

13th street, south of market, has good eats and shops.

15th and market-ish is love park - big fountain, music, foods during the lunch hour. nice respite.

  • I did hear about Redding Terminal & that sounds perfect (especially since my hotel doesn't have a continental breakfast or any decent/inexpensive lunch options).  Keep the ideas coming!

Any specific restaurants and/or food to get while I am in town?

  • what kind of food do you like?
  • I like just about anything!  I love to cook at home, so ideally I enjoy going to restaurants with food that I can't cook at home.  So I usually skip typical American food for something more unique.  Anything is game!
  • this is a good blog for lunch options near there
