Adventures of A Girl and Her Apron
Bride and groom are very young, both just turned 24. They got engaged after only 8 months of dating.
Within seconds of getting engaged, bride immediately changes her email address to be "Groom & Bride Hislastname", and uses it for everything, not just wedding related stuff. Apparently they cannot have a separate email address, it's not married enough for her.
Since I have a lot of wedding experience, I have become her official wedding planner and DOC, so she ran all decisions by me first, which is fine. Problem is when I tell her something is wrong or won't work she totally ignores me to do whatever she wants. Grrrrr. Don't ask for my advice if you're not going to listen.
The venue is very....."rustic" shall we say (cough::it's a 1980's floral patterned dump::cough) but it works with her budget. Think log cabins, dirt and gravel. Ok, fine. I told her she should find something slim fitting, maybe lace or organza (wedding is outdoors in July, and she's very petite) that will flatter her small frame. She is wearing a HUGE white princess ballgown with cathedral train, with 3 veils of varying lengths and a sparkly tiara. She insisted on getting her fittings started in March, although the wedding is in July. I told her this was a mistake, and only 1-2 fittings max were necessary. She says she wants at least 5-6 to "get it just right".
I just sent our RSVP, and went to her registry to buy her a gift. A few gems to note:
67 towels. Yes, 67 full size bath towels. $100 soda maker. $185 ice bucket. 2 completely different sets of formal china, complete with their own silverware, goblets and wine glasses, 12 sets of each. $400 vacuum. $200 ice cream maker. $150 juice maker. $200 indoor grill. $100 panini maker. Oh, and only one set of 300 thread count sheets. WTF? I know her family well, there is no freakin way they can afford to buy her these gifts, not to mention they do not entertain on such a lavish scale that they would need two sets of formal china and a $185 ice bucket!
Their FB posts to each other are SO nauseating. A snippet: "only good thing out of today is FI's kisses", "I cannot wait to be Mrs. Groom Hislastname and be joined to him for life!" and from him "wishes the most beautiful woman in the world would a.k.a. Bride , would be done with her homework so she could come and relax with me !!", and "hey you, I just want you to know how much I love you and how amazing I think you are. Thank you for being you."
I really need to submit them to STFU couples.
Wow your post about the fb status makes me feel sick.
I hate when people fill up facebook with that crap. It makes me wonder who are you trying to prove how "in love you are to."
I love the dress. I would wear it.
Speaking of white at a wedding. I was just at a wedding where a girl was wearing a spaghetti strap white lace layer dress that was super short. I couldn't believe it. I was like you really wore a solid white dress to a wedding.
LOL. I have no effing clue about the towels. It's weird.
it's official.
wear the dress. and some super sexy heels.
cuz, when you wear a ballgown in a barn, YOU'RE "that" girl.

I give the marriage a year or two, max. The bride is so steeped in her pretty princess day, and so full of fantasy about being married that I don't think it's going to work out. Her family is no help either, when she posted about starting pre marital counseling, several of them piped up with "but you don't need premarital counseling! Your relationship is perfect!". Once her special day is over, and real life consisting of bills and responsibilities and arguments comes up, she is going to get very disillusioned. So either they will get divorced, or she will decide they need to have a baby right away becuase she needs a new project that puts her in the limelight.
Not to mention that her FI is a new police officer, which is a stressful job (and I think police officers have a much higher rate of divorce than the general population), and he's kind of a d!ck to her, FB posts not withstanding. He talks to her like she's an idiot, and puts her down in front of others. She just laughs it off like it's a "joke", when really it's passive aggressive emotional abuse. Her parents don't seem to see it either and think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Oh well.
What's sad is that she is a truly nice girl, just incredibly naive and unrealistic in her expectations. While I know her registry looks greedy, she's not meaning to be that way. She just truly thinks that as a married woman her life is going to consist of gourmet meals and fancy china with her doting husband. It's sad really.
Love the dress, where is it from?
Definitely nude heels and gold jewelery.
Please update us with horror stories from the wedding!!!!
It's the Maggie London sale on Ideeli. $138 dress for $49!
Awesome deal...although I do NOT trust a strapless bra to hold up my bazoongas at the moment
Mine are large and in charge too. I think a good bra with one strap on it, plus a rather snug dress will contain them.

Awesome.
And we knew that couple on FB! MrB's friend got married and it was all "I wub joo Smoooogli-woogli!"

i know, right?
They were divorced in under 2 years. No one is surprised.
Call me Kat =^..^=
Yeah, ew. To me that says they're trying too hard, so something is wrong.
