Any Thailand travellers out there?
I feel like some of you went to Thailand on your honeymoon, so I thought I'd try this question here as well as on the Travel board. I'm going to Thailand as part of my Great Asian Adventure this summer (see my blog - which I cannot get to stay in my signature! - for the deets) and I was hoping to go from Bangkok to Siem Riep, but flight prices are ridiculous. Anyone try the overland options? I'm nervous about the safety of that route...any other tips are greatly appreciated
Re: Any Thailand travellers out there?
We did both Thailand and Cambodia for our honeymoon! If i recall correctly, it was about $500 to fly Bangkok -> Phnom Penh -> Siem Reap -> Bangkok. Not sure if that's what you are seeing (this was four years ago.)
It is worth reconsidering what you are doing in other places to ensure you get to Angkor while you are there. It's an amazing experience. If you can only do one, you could skip Phnom Penh, but I liked being there to get more of the history around the civil war and see what the city is like now.
As a friend of our said, "If you are within 1000 miles of Angkor, you have to go."
Good luck with your planning!
We spent 2 months traveling around SE Asia for our HM, including Thailand and Cambodia. We went from Vietnam to Cambodia (HCMC to PP overland), and then overlanded it from Siem Reap to the Thai border. The drive took almost an entire day and it was bumby and uncomfortable (but then again we travel backpacker style) and I wouldn't recommend it. However, this was almost 6 years ago and I have no idea if things have changed.
I'll have to check out your blog. Have an awesome trip and make sure you report back!
