update on BIL hit by drunk driver saturday night

first, my blessed BIL is going to make a full recovery.

second, THANK YOU to everyone who shared well wishes and sent up prayers. it is so appreciated!

BIL was hit by a drunk driver late saturday night on his way home from work. his car is completely totaled. i saw pictures of it and it is by only a miracle from above that he is alive. not only is he alive, but sunday he made a miraculous recovery and is now home from the hospital. he is in a lot of pain, but nothing is broken, no major injuries, despite the first reports. lots of soft tissue damage, but he's going to eventually be okay.

my poor sister faced her worst nightmare. he called to tell her he was five minutes from home and never showed up. eventually she drove up and down the highway looking for him, then contacted the police to file a missing persons report. in the midst of processing the report, she got a return call from a hospital. apparently, he's an idiot and hardly ever wears a seat belt, so she feared the worst, but again, miraculously he was wearing his seat belt that night. perhaps what saved his life. she was in no shape to drive to the hospital, so police escorted her there and picked her up and brought her home the next day.

the other driver, who was driving in excess of 100mph and trying to flee from police, was arrested. i'm not sure if he was injured in the crash (or even if he crashed or just caused BIL to crash).

my sister is now trying to sort out their insurance and financial situation, since he will be out of work for quite a while and whatever settlement they get won't come right away. she is just so thankful that he was wearing his seat belt and will be okay.

again, thank you so much for the outpouring of support. it was very much needed and i hope you continue to send them positive thoughts.

sharing love and light,

Lindsey

  • OMG how incredibly awful.  I am so glad to hear he will make a full recovery.  From being out on disability for six months I know what it is like to stress over money.  DOes he have short term disability through work?
  • i am so glad to hear that your BIL is already home and going to make a full recovery. still sending good thoughts to your sis & BIL

  • Oh Lindsey good grief, what a terrifying story.  I'm so sorry for you and so sorry for your sister, I would be a total mess if that happened to my husband.  I'm so sorry this happened but I'm so glad he's going to be OK.  Yikes.

  • I'm so glad he is on the road to recovery.  5 years working for MADD exposed me to the many devastating consequences of drunk driving.  Thank goodness for the good decision to wear his seatbelt!
