coupons

Anyone have good advice for using coupons? I feel like I should take advantage of them, but I usually a) forget them at home or b) buy the wrong brand of something. Anyone here a super awesome coupon clipper?

Re: coupons

  • I'm terrible. I always forget them. Or when I do remember and find them they are expired.

  • I try. I'll go to redplum and coupon.com. I don't get a paper at home, but our office does from time to time and I steal those coupons. I have a small plastic collapsable folder that holds them all. I don't take the entire thing with me, we meal plan, so I go through my coupons before I go and take what I need with me.

I shop primarily at QFC and they have it so you can download coupons directly to your savings card.  With the exception of a few things, I am not tied to a brand, so I'll shop the sales.

And of course, I always buy 6 bottles of wine at a time, for the 10% discount.

  • I'm horrible at coupons.  I know they can save money, but I usually don't have the patience to go through them.  Plus, I tend to stick with certain brands.

If I'm going to use coupons I make sure that item is on my shopping list and try to make a mark by it.  I usually bring my shopping list on a pad of paper so I tuck the coupons under the list page sticking out so I'll hopefully remember.

Sometimes I'll even drop the coupon on top of the item in the cart.

Usually I still forget.  Whomp whomp.

  • ahh yes, on my list the item gets a "c" next to it if I have a coupon. So when I get to the item I look at the coupon and make sure what I want meets the requirements, i.e. buy 2 or whatever.

  • I never use coupons. I should but I always forget, I wish I was like the "Extreme Couponers" on TLC. I would love to spend only $5 on thousands of dollars worth of groceries.

This is what I do, too.  I meal plan and pick out all the items for which I have coupons and move them to the front of the coupon holder.  I still take the whole holder with me, in case something else I usually get is on sale and I have a coupon for it.
