Semi-gross pet related question

Basically, our two lovely cats have p!ssed all over our front bedroom.  We figured - our house is already destroyed, might as well add another project and get new carpet.  We pulled the base out of the bedroom last night and have started to pull up the carpet but...I am worried pulling the base and carpet out of the bedroom won't make the smell go away.  Is it possible it has stained the concrete and if so, what do we do?  Can we spray something on the concrete?  Or use some sort of scrub?

Re: Semi-gross pet related question

  • Nature's miracle?  That has done well when I've had pee on grout/tile at least.  Just remember to let it evaporate on its own...no scrubbing, etc.  Good luck!

This. I would imagine that it would be absorbed in the carpet and padding but if you think there is something on the concrete the Nature's Miracle should take care of it.
  • Yup, Nature's Miracle or you can spray the area with bleach and let it dry naturally. We had the same problem in the "cat room" last summer. The problem wasn't noticeable until the house flooded in June and the mildewed carpet PLUS the cat pee...well, it was toxic, to say the least! We ripped out everything and sprayed it down with bleach several times. I actually did scrub with the bleach a little (gloves on, of course) with a hard bristle floor brush and the foam that came up was yellow. Ew.

We put down laminate and they've not peed in there again. I say they, I'm pretty sure it was just Extra!

Whew - I am glad I am not the only one with this problem!  I think it is my boy cat that is doing it but I am not sure.  He is so naughty.  We will buy some Nature's Miracle and try it out.

    Thanks everyone!

Oh no, you most definitely aren't. We have a dog pee problem in the "dining room" of our house (has the pool table the previous owners left). We're treating with Nature's Miracle right now but unfortunately, it's not helping much. We plan to rip up that carpet and lay laminate in there, as well. It was already in our plan for some point so we might as well get it going.

Dog pee is easier than cat pee, though, I believe. Still smells bad.

  • The two nights we kept our brand new dog in one of the bedrooms (before we crated her), she peed everywhere and no matter how much we cleaned the carpets we could not get the smell out. We pulled up the carpet and pad right away, so that helped to get the smell out of there and I doubt anything spread to the concrete. As far as the cat's room though....well, I actually did not know they had been peeing in there - I didn't notice until I moved the bed and was like WHOA!!!!!!  We still haven't moved the carpet out of there because the cats are still locked in until the damn bathroom is done. God only knows what we will find! I nearly threw up when we pulled out the baseboards. Naughty!
