UGH! workday vent (sorry its long)
"First Day" was a nightmare. Yesterday was technically my first day but I only worked 3 hrs and there were 3 of us in the room so I wasnt "counted" as part of the ratio.
First of all I was scheduled 1-7 (6hrs) and anything over 4.5 you need a break. I did not get one. Also I was not relieved until 8:00. Noone asked me to stay, noone notified me, nothing. At 7:50 the supervisor was like "What time do you leave?" I said "7" and she looked at the clock and was like "ooops" and strolled out. 10mins later a parent came, which brought us down to ratio and I left. THEN I went and checked the schedule on my way out (she does daily-which is dumb anyway) and I see Im scheduled 1-9:30nobreak. WHAT?! No effing way. I have another job I work for sure until 12, and I told them Im available until 2. So if Im with a patient at 11:55 then I will stay. I left her a note saying I wouldnt be in until 3. If you cant discuss my schedule with me, I'll give you the same treatment. When she hired me it was for 3pm-10pm...why is this changing??
Also in the time I was there WAYYYY too many parents complained.
When I came in a mother was b!tching the teachers out for leaving her son in the swing for what she assumed was "an hour" in a dirty diaper (a blow out).
A second parent complained of lost bottles, caps, binkies etc. Not the first time it had happened
A third parent complained of un-noticed blow-out again.
Others complained of more lost items, uncompleted daily sheets, insufficient diaper changes/feedings etc etc etc.
To me, this is unacceptable. Also the girl who was closing told me that she would not be getting a break (she was working 4pm-12midnight) um what? srsly? This is because they are understaffed.
I may go in tomorrow and tell her this isnt going to work. I was exhausted and really stressed out while I was there which is not the kind of person parents want watching their babies. The center is run horribly also. I dont think I want to be part of it.

I'm a little confused though. What is the daycare open so late?? Is that a normal thing??
I wouldnt say its "normal" but its definitely so they can get as many "customers" as they are able. Theyre open M-F 6AM-MIDNIGHT and Sat&Sun 6AM-6PM
UGH. I cant bring myself to go in this afternoon.
