Mommas

Check in, first? How is LO?

Kiley is crawling, full blown, hands and knees. And now standing, or trying to stand EVERYWHERE.

Second:

When did you start giving LO "people food" and not so much pureed stuff? Kiley has no teeth yet. I did give her some babybel cheese last night and she LOVED it. She had some saltines as well and liked that. I started making her food more chunkier, but want to start giving her some of what we eat, would you recommend that or should I wait till she has some teeth?

Re: Mommas

  • we are good. we are on our hands and knees and rocking but hasn't put it all together yet.  when she appears to move forward, she flops down and rolls to it.

we have to started to give her things like pancakes, chicken, bread, avocado, etc...  she usually makes a weird face because it's not a puree but she eventually gets used to it. we don't give it to her in place of her regular meal yet just as an added treat. i have this weird thing where i don't feel right giving her real food while she's still literally on the breast.  i know it sounds crazy and bizarre but it's just how i feel personally in my own warped mind.  i don't care if she's taking a botte of bm, just on the boob. LOL i'm actually trying to replace her 2 midday feedings with bottles while i am with her (it's just so much easier to throw her on than having to pump to replace it) and just nursing her in the am and pm.

  • Yay Kiley!

Campbell favorite and seems like only word is "HOT" - he points at the stove and holds his hand up and says "hot. hot. hot. hot" and if we're cooking, he wants to watch and will throw a fit if we don't pick him up so he can see. Fun. It was nice so he knows to not go near the stove because it's hot but learn another word, kid!!

We started giving him people food around 9 months. Green beans and little pieces of chicken were the first things. He did have 4 teeth then but everything I've read said those little gums can mash almost just as well. I would say try it but stick with really soft small pieces (like really steamed carrots or avocado, etc)

  • Dropping in quick...

Duncan is getting over a sinus infection with has made him Cranky with a capital C. He's walking all over and getting into such mischief. He loves to climb on anything or anyone. Yesterday evening it got real quiet and I went looking for him. He had taken all the books of the 2nd shelf of our bookcase, and climbed up into it and was "hiding" and giggling.

The big 1st birthday is less than a week away. Jim is coming home tomorrow night for a weekend visit and we'll be celebrating then by going to the zoo Saturday.

Food wise... I started just like you with soft things that he could easily mass in his gums-- banana chunks, peach chunks, cheese, small cubes of cooked sweet potato, little pieces of shreded meat/turkey/chicken and so on... just keep adding slowly. If Kiley is teething it should feel good on her gums.

  • I'm not giving them to replace her meals either, I give then as treats after she eats her meal right now as well, I was just concerned about not having teeth and chewing. Glad to know that they can use their gums.  I should of figured they were strong just because she always "bites" her snacks in half, lol..
  • Yay Kiley!

We are having some major behavior issues right now at daycare, and home. Xander is in time out about 3-4 times a day at daycare. This week alone he has done the following: bit me, knocked down two of the older kids at daycare, thrown his blanket over 3 kids and push them down, slamming a toy open/shut in the kids' faces, throwing cars and screamed in a 4 month old's face and scared her. The terrible twos are in full force.

We started people foods around 7-8 months I think. Chicken, cheese, pasta, fruits and veggies. We were still doing 2nd and 3rd stage foods with him for his meals. Granted Xander had most of his teeth by this point. Our Pedi told us that their gums are hard enough to start on real food when we had our 6 month check up.

I find this funny about Alexander, he hates hamburgers, cheese burgers, hotdogs and pizza.

  • Avery is good. Turned 10mo on the 8th. She has 6 teeth and working on 2 more, seem they're coming 2 @ a time. She's handled it great though. We've been so blessed with a great baby.

We've given her a piece or two of what we have (no meats yet) and she loves it. We gave her a cone from DQ on Mothers day, she tore it up! She started stage 3 foods/puffs/etc around 7-8 months so she's used to textured things. She really enjoys the Gerber Wagon wheel things.

I would start with things now, Avery would mush them with her tongue on her gums.

  • Riley is pointing and saying "what's that?" all the time....constantly. The home inspector was cracking up today. She also waves and says hi to random people at the store, now.

As for solids, we did BLW so she never had purees, we started finger foods at 6 1/2 months. We started with mostly veggies, but also banana, toast, rice cakes, graham crackers, pasta. She didn't get her first tooth until a couple weeks ago, but she has been eating what we eat for months, now. The only meat she can't handle is steak, obviously, but she's fine with baked chicken, ham, turkey, any ground meat, fish, etc. She can also handle more solid fruits like pears, melon, and sometimes apple if it's soft enough. She also does well with raw tomato, cucumber, and bell pepper. If you think about it the teeth you use most for eating are molars and those are a long time coming. At this point there are very few things we don't let her try - nuts and nut products are the only thing I can think of. We've also always given bigger pieces of things so she can pick it up and take her own bites as opposed to giving smaller pieces. I gave her shredded cheese off my salad the other day and she wouldn't eat it, but she'll demolish a stick of it.
