accountability?

are we still doing this? When I weighed yesterday, I was down 1/2 pound for the week. Not a lot, but at least it's in the right direction. I didn't go to the gym at all last week but MH and I did lay down a tile floor and grout it, which was a ton of physical work. That's got to count for something, right? :) We'll be going to the gym tonight.

How are you guys doing?

Re: accountability?

  • I'm not doing well. I haven't been to the gym in almost a month and I haven't really been watching what I eat. I'm planning on going to Spin Friday morning before work as long as I can breathe by then.

I was tagged in a pic on fb last week and I almost cried when I saw it. For real.

  • Great! I've been getting my 35+ minutes on the treadmill each day no problem and doing a little bit of strength training here and there. I'm up 11 lbs. so far, my next appt is Monday so we'll see how I do then. Just hoping to keep it under 20 total. I've been able to introduce more vegetables back into my diet now that I'm on prescription strength Zantac for the heartburn, which has been great.

I'm getting so antsy though, dying to go for a run! I put on my running playlist the other day and I got so sad remembering where I was in certain runs or races when a song played... I guess it's the hormones :)

  • As long as I don't put on some major weight in the next 13 weeks I should be able to keep my weight gain under 35 lbs and I am perfectly happy with this.

I have stopped walking at lunch because it is too hot but I am hoping to get the motivation to get in some evening walks for the next few months.

  • I haven't weighed myself yet for this week, but was down 2lb the week before. I've finally gotten back to the gym a couple of times. Brooks has some spinning bikes out in the open, which pretty much makes me the happiest girl ever. Spinning on my schedule?? yesplease!

My food is still all effed up because I'm still adjusting to eating much less meat. Unfortunately, if I don't bring my lunch, my cafeteria options are usually mushy veggies (GAG!) or cheese pizza. lol. I've been finding like one veggie I can eat and then supplementing with snack foods. I joke that I'll be the first person to cut most meat out of their diet and GAIN weight... because I'm replacing it with doritos. I'll figure it out though.

  • I've been doing pretty bad as well. I have been watching what I eat a bit better, but really want to focus on that more. I'm making our meals list today, so I'm trying to limit us to fresh fruits/veggies, whole grains, and lean meats 3 or so times a week. We were doing really well with that before, and need to get back to it.

As for weight, I'm hovering around 152, but I'm seriously bloated right now, and have cheated a bit while on my period, so I'm going to punt to next week for a more accurate weigh-in.

On a good note, DH and I were faithful about taking walks/running while we were at the beach, and I even ran 2 miles without stopping for more than 3-5 seconds for a sip of water (working on being able to do that without stopping or choking, lol)! I was so proud of myself since I'm NOT a natural runner! My goal of finishing a 5k without stopping by the 4th of July may actually be attainable!

This is actually really common of people who go vegetarian or vegan. They don't know how to replace the protein sources and overload on carbs, or get stuck eating the sole meatless option (pizza, grilled cheese, pasta). It takes some work, but you do have to plan ahead and also be creative with what you've got.

Chickpeas, hard boiled eggs and cottage cheese are great veg proteins available at lots of salad bars or restaurants.

  • I lost 2.2 pounds last week (putting me down to 144.6) when we forgot to post, but then when I weighed myself this week I was up 2 (146.6) but we'd been on vacation and I hadn't watched what I ate (or drank) at all so I was okay with it. I weigh on Mondays and just out of curiosity I weighed yesterday and was back down 2+ that I had put on (so back down to 144.4) so I think I probably maintained but that I was holding a lot of water weight from drinking and having AF. Hopefully I'll be down from the 144.4 when I weigh next Monday. I don't have any major stuff coming up and I've vowed to take it easy this weekend (no going out) so I should be able to stay on track. I'm getting really close to my 10% goal so I'm super determined.

  • I'm trying not to use the scale to measure progress anymore.

I started New Rules of Lifting for Women last week & I'm really liking it so far. The day I started, I weighed myself & took measurements & I plan on doing this every two weeks. I've started eating more protein & trying to cut back on crap & starchy carbs.

Really? Sweet. I don't feel as bad. lol

Unfortunately, the 3 things you mention all make me want to throw up a little. That's the 2nd biggest problem I'm having. lol. I recently realized that I'm a super picky eater. It was never a problem when it was meat-n-potatoes, but I think I'm just going to have to force myself to like things I don't currently like.

There's hope for you :) JJ grew up in a very meat and potatoes family, and was a little skeptical of things I made at first, but now he'll eat just about anything (except tofu, he really just doesn't like tofu).

What about yogurt? Greek yogurt is a great source of protein. Edamame is too, I buy frozen bags of edamame from WF and top salads with it. Do you eat scrambled eggs? We have a lot of frittatas and omelettes. You can also try tempeh and seitan, they're a little more advanced.

I think it all stems in how the food is prepared, and mixing it with things you already know you like. Like last night we had buffalo tempeh wraps, the buffalo sauce disguises the tempeh a bit (which can have a bite, it's fermented soybeans) and JJ really liked it.

Sorry if I'm giving lots of unsolicited advice, I know it's a tough change to make. My sister went veg a couple years ago and was a total junk food vegetarian for a long time b/c of her pickiness... but she's coming around too!

  • I had my 30 week appointment last week and I'm up 8 pounds, so I'm happy with that.  Last time around I gained about a pound a week in the last 2 months so that has me right on track for what I gained with B.

I've also started seeing a chiropractor because I am having a lot of back pain, which has made working out at all not even an option.  I've stuck with my yoga though and I'm loving it.

Ashlee - I have the running itch too.  Several of my friends are running the Disney wine and dine half this fall and are starting training, I am bummed I can't run with them.

  • jhaps, will you eat kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans?  I am sure you could find a recipe for a yummy vegetarian chili.

What about lentils?  Are they a good source of protein?  I have a recipe for a hearty lentil soup with portobello mushrooms in a tomato based broth.

    ________

As far as my "progress", I have been trying to watch what I'm eating and my portion sizes.  I was going to go to the gym yesterday, but my mom could not babysit and I was going to go during the time no childcare was offered. By the evening, I wasn't feeling well, so I just vegetated in front of the TV and finished about 1/2 a pint of Strawberry Whole Fruit sorbet, which I justified by the fact that it was fruit.  Embarrassed
