Good make-ahead recipes for a bbq?
We're planning a bbq for about 30 ppl this summer. The only problem is that I have class until noon (when the party would start) and would need to do all the prep work the day before so my husband (who will also be watching our very active 10month old) just has to set up while I'm in class.
I was thinking about doing some BBQ pork in the crockpot & grilled chicken (to be marinated in advance & cooked as guests start to arrive) and baked beans. I'll probably also buy something like cookies.
My questions are:
*anyone have a great crockpot bbq pork recipe?
*any other quick, easy & delicious make-ahead sides (that can sit outside)?
Re: Good make-ahead recipes for a bbq?
This broccoli salad was a surprise hit at a recent bbq and no mayo, so it can sit out for awhile.
I did this Dr. Pepper pork in the oven, but it could easily go in a Crock pot.

I love this macaroni salad but it's not something you can leave outside for an extended period because of the mayo.

If you have a Costco membership, they usually have these tubs of potato salad in the summer which are about $5 and delicious. I put it in a big bowl and put some paprika and fresh herbs from my garden on top to make it look homemade and people always love it.
Oh! that reminds me of a few more. For C's birthday we did an orzo, grilled zucchini and feta salad and a cucumber, tomato and onion salad (kinda like this but with tomatoes).
this is my favorite crock pot pulled pork (thank you tracy42206): Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
i highly recommend letting it "marinate" in the rub for the full three days. soooo good!
and for chicken, i love Spiedies. salamida's spiedie sauce (usually at wegman's) is probably cheaper and easier but some of my RI nestie peeps have made it and also loved it.

my aunt made a mayo-free potato salad last summer - she just coated the potatoes in olive oil, vinegar, a little dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. this one also sounds good:

Cheekywife already suggested but I make that pulled pork for a lot of our parties and leave the finsihed result in the crockpot for sandwiches. If you have more than one crockpot, you can put baked beans in the other - I used this recipe for Molly's party and they were awesome (I both soaked the beans overnight and boiled the next day before cooking).
This southwest pasta salad was also a hit at our last party. Things like veggie or fruit dip are also good for make ahead. My faves are hummus, carmelized onion dip, and lemon herb marinated feta. I really make ahead about everything for the girls' parties since we have them at home and always have tons of people staying at our house for the party. I just make up a list of what I can do every day leading up to the party so that everything is ready to go by the night before.
I'll type it up for you tonight, but the Cooks Illustrated Slow Cooker BBQ Park was absolutely amazing. So is their Slow Cooker BBQ shredded beef.
I've made vinegar dressed cole slaw the night before with great success.
What about Macaroni and Cheese? That reheats well and is always a hit.
Tabbouleh is also good the next day (the Moosewood Low Fat cookbook recipe)
Baked Beans.
You could always do a pasta salad with italian dressing
Fresh fruit and raw veggies are always a hit for any type of party (summer or not).
