I've emptied the dishwasher, cleaned the screen/traps basically pulling out all of the pieces and scrubbed them clean and felt around in the little crevices to make sure there wasn't any food. All I can think of was that someone didn't completely rinse off dishes and turned on the dishwasher. We've not changed our dishwasher detergent and have plenty of Jet Dry.
Prior to the above, I just re-turned on the dishwasher since I couldn't "see" anything, but could feel it...I thought that would be a quick fix. *After* doing the above, I also ran it once on empty (and made sure to run the garbage disposal first).
And still, this morning when I retrieve a glass - I can feel sandy specs on the inside.
What gives?
Re: Sandy residue on glass dishes in dishwasher
My mom is having this problem. its terrible. We have ran it with vinegar, scrubbed all the seal areas, cleaned out the traps. and nothing is getting better. Oh, and its a new dishwasher
We're using "All-in1-finish" - which is the sample that came with the dishwasher when new (exactly 1-year ago) and therefore was the only detergent we have ever used. It's one of those "brick" shaped detergents.

I had that problem with Finish. I use the Cascade Complete gel packs and don't have the problem anymore.
We had this problem with the Cascade powder. I like the gel packs, but DH doesn't think they get the dishes clean enough. So we switched to a liquid detergent and it's better. I still notice it sometimes - which I think is due to our hard water.
Is the residue white and are there hard water spots everywhere?
If so, dump a few cups of vinegar in your dishwasher, and run it through. I don't think it matters if you have dishes in there or not. It will clean out the jets and get the white stuff out.
After running a load like that, your dishes should come out cleaner, provided you keep using jet dry. We also use liquid Cascade.
