DH has been hunting for full-time jobs for awhile now and we've been postponing a trip to Peru until we know what his job situation is going to be. Well it's taking longer than expected for him to land something so we're thinking about going ahead and booking plane tickets to Peru. The reason is that he's from Peru and hasn't seen his dad and dad's family since he left for the U.S. almost 12 years ago. He's worried that his grandparents might pass away before he sees them again.
Do you think it's unwise to take a week long trip out of the country when we don't know what the job situation is going to be? If he starts a new job and has turn right around and take vacation time, do you think the company will be ticked off? Originally we were going to make at least a two week trip out of it and do all the tourist fun things but now I'm thinking we need to just go for a week, make it a family-only visit and stop postponing it. (Another added consideration is we want to get pregnant in 6 mos to a year so that's obviously going to postpone any trips to Peru even more).
Re: Good idea to travel while job hunting?
Does he have any job prospects right now? Any interviews planned?
I would probably do it- if he interviews with a company he can let them know that he does have a trip planned - and just make sure to purchase trip insurance in case the new job says they really need him there at that time. But I've never been in this situation, so I can't tell you that it is the best idea ever- I just know what I would probably do in this situation.
I'd still go. If he is job hunting I would try to make sure he can check his email from his phone or find a computer just to check.
If he finds a job just tell them once he is hired he has a trip planned. I once got a job and a week later was going out of town for 2 weeks. They still hired me and had me start training before I left.
He has one interview next week so I'll at least wait to see how that goes before booking. Everything other than that is still very tentative. I hadn't thought of travel insurance; I'll look into that.
Good to know someone else has done this. Thanks!
