is an email thank enough?

After an interview is an email "thank you" enough? Or should that always be followed up with a written note? Not sure if it matters, but all correspondence has been by email thus far.

Re: is an email thank enough?

  • I would mail a note the same day or next day after the interview and wait a few days or a week to follow up via email.
  • My philosophy is e-mail if a decision is to be made quickly, snail mail if it's going to take a bit.

  • I came on to ask the same question!  I had an interview this afternoon and they are expecting to make a decision by Friday - so I don't have time to mail something.  Also, I had 3 interviewers so I'm thinking an email is my only option.  I just don't love how impersonal it is.

  • I had several interviews for two different positions recently.  All of my thank you's were sent via e-mail and I received offers from both companies.  As a hiring manager, I would say 99% of people follow up with an e-mail thank you.  I think only one person sent a written note in the mail.  As long as I receive a thank you, I am satisfied that the candidate followed up.
