Tile recs (kitchen backsplash)

So far I've only looked at The Tile Shop. Any other recs? We're probably going to go with a subway tile.

  • There are tons of tile places in Sterling Hts and Shelby.  I think my mom just got hers from tile works.

  • We bought all the tile for our bathroom remodel from the tile shop, we also went with subway tile. Our contractor was able to get us a discount, but its still not cheap. But it looks amazing! They should be putting the finishing touches on today, I promise photos.
  • Definitely check out Home Depot and Lowe's.  There is also a tile shop on Telegraph, in Southfield I think....can't remember the name.  It's at least worth calling around to see how their prices compare.

Home Depot and Lowes are probably going to be the least expensive for basic subway tile.  Places like Virginia Tile are going to be a bit more expensive but they have really nice displays to browse and more higher end options of subway tile.  Definitely worth checking out at least.

  • Not sure of the name, but the tile place on 19 Mile Rd just west of VanDyke.

  • Are you looking for "classic" white glazed subway tile?  If so... just look at HD or Lowes or any big box store for the cheapest.  But if you are just looking for the subway tile pattern, you can get almost any tile cut to size and lay it in the brick pattern.

We don't want a white - we're thinking something with some color in it. Not too sure, we will have to go to some showrooms and see. Nothing we like at HD, but that is a good idea about cutting bigger tile to scale.

cutting it will only work if the edges of the tile aren't meant to be rounded or beveled.  subway tile is usually 3x6 or sometimes 2x6.  so if you found some 6x6 or 12x12 you really liked that has "pointy" corners, you could do that.  Sure it would be a pain and more work... but tile love is tile love
