s/o crushes

My book rave post got me thinking...

Can you tell us about your high school crush? Who was he and did you act on it? Did it go anywhere? Do you know what he's doing now?

Re: s/o crushes

  • I was never brave enough to tell mine, even though he once said in front of me that he wished if someone was crushing on him that they would tell him. Anyway, we were in drama club with his shy little brother. One day little brother gave me a four leaf clover clumsily wrapped in saran wrap. I knew what it meant, but man, how did I attract the wrong brother?! The older brother is now a pediatrician on the east coast with two kids.

  • The most intense was on a guy who never saw me as anything other than a friend. All through high school I waited for him to notice that I was perfect for him, and he never did. Finally, in college I wrote him a letter spilling my guts out. I figured I had nothing to lose... and you know what? He wrote me a super sweet note back basically saying we'd always be friends... so, it was not a great happy ending, but I'm glad I made at least one attempt and wasn't completely humiliated by it.

We remain friends to this day, but only see each other once a year, if that. I'm FB friends with his long-time gf, and they have two amazing daughters.

  • Can you tell us about your high school crush? Did anyone really just have one?! I had 3 big ones. One was a baseball player. He was short, he had black, wavy hair and I thought Aladdin looked like him (came out at the same time as my crush). He was shy and it was one of those crushes where we hardly talked. My second I met through a church friend. He went to another school. He was tall, athletic and had dark, wavy hair (noticing a trend?). He was also sort of shy but we talked more and became sort of friends. The third one was super tall, kind of gangly, and had straight, brown hair. He was a drummer in the jazz band. I also met him through church but he went to my high school, too. We became even more friends.

Who was he and did you act on it? See above for who they were. Did I act on it, depends on your definition of acting on it. The first guy, I don't think you could in any way say I acted on it. Soon after seeing him across the quad I found out he was dating someone I went to elementary school with (I was friends with her then but not in HS). As soon as they broke up he got together with someone else and I think they got married eventually. Guy #2 I made more of an effort to get to know him, despite having major anxiety talking to boys then. He also had a GF it turned out. Guy #3 I also made an effort to get to know and at times I thought it was going somewhere but never did. He never dated anyone else that anyone knew of so people started to wonder if he was gay. He's married now with two little boys though.

Did it go anywhere? No, see above. So if you've done the math, I never had a BF in HS.

Do you know what he's doing now? Guys 1 and 2, I have no idea. Guy #3 is married and has two little boys. He looks almost exactly the same. I also had a major crush in jr high (through all of jr high I only liked him and even into 9th grade I did). I know that he lives in Michigan, he's some kind of scientist, he's married and he's seriously balding.

  • Umm... my math teacher. He was so hot. Shoot, I STILL have a crush on that guy based on memory alone.

Other than that, no one really. I never really had a bf in high school, and didn't ever particularly even like anyone. There was a basketball player I remember thinking was pretty hunky, but I'm fairly certain I never spoke a word to him. High school was a pretty boy-boring time for me I guess! I did, however, have an unbearably intense 7th and 8th grade crush that was never reciprocated.

  • I think every year I had a crush on a different guy, and then one guy I liked the whole way through. Nothing ever happened with any of them, although there was flirtation to some extent with all. Two of them turned into wastes of space, and two turned out normal.
  • My highschool crush was a guy named Ross.  I am pretty sure he knew I had a crush on him, I wasn't very good about hiding it.  We ended up just being friends.

He's now an actor, he latest move was Soul Surfer starring him, Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid.

  • I actually had a few crushes, but never acted on them.  I wish I had because I later found out that two of my crushes actually liked me too.  If I had acted on them I probably would have never started dating DH, so it worked out.  DH was also one of my crushes.  When I first met him I thought he was cute.  I kept thinking about him but never had the nerve to get his # until he asked for mine.

  • It was a guy one grade lower than I. We met when I was a Sophomore and he was a Freshman. We had the same PE period, but different teachers. There was a lot of indirect flirting between the two of us until I decided to just start saying Hi when I saw him. Finally he stopped to talk to me when I said Hi enough times. About a month later we got together and were together for 3 years, and even engaged at one point (I know, we were REALLY young).

Now he lives in Reno and is divorced but has 2 kids. He broke up with me his senior year of high school and married a 27 year old lady with two kids of her own a month later. It's truly a strange situation.

  • I went to a nerd camp the summer before my senior year in high school and met my biggest crush.  He was easily the smartest guy I'd ever met at the time and was super attractive to boot.  After the program ended, we kept in touch through letters (this was pre-email days...yes, I'm old) and I thought we were going to go to college together.  Oddly, he didn't get into the school that was a stretch for me and we ended up at rival institutions.

He came to visit me on campus early in freshman year and we definitely acted on our feelings :)  Nothing too scandalous, but I was really into him.  But he was so far away and, being young and stupid, I didn't see how it could work out so I started dating a guy at my school instead.  The crush and I did get together again once, but ultimately lost touch.

He's now a math professor and I believe has a daughter.  Ah, memories :)

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • My jr. high/high school crush was sooooo cliche. He was the star quarterback on the football team and the star pitcher on the baseball team. I was a cheerleader which made it even more cliche. I never had the nerve to talk to him even though my dad was his baseball coach in the Babe Ruth league. Anyway, turns out he was a jerk off and I somewhere around my freshman/sophomore year I made the decision to not like him anymore. He knew I like him but I don't think I was his type...slutty. Plus, he knew my dad and was probably scared of what would happen to him if he ever hurt me. I have no idea what happened to him. I think he went to Sac State for a while on a football scholarship but I don't know if he graduated. The last time I saw him was about 6 years ago when I was working for a wedding venue and he was a guest. I was dating H by this time so I was no longer forlorn in the love department.

I had a college crush that's pretty funny. This was right before I met H. I was a sophomore and he was junior. We worked together in our school's food and hospitality services. He was tall, hot, and a track star (see a pattern?). I actually spoke to this guy and we flirted back and forth a lot. Well, I made the mistake of telling him how I felt...over myspace (:head desk:). Even though he didn't feel the same way I had no problem being friends but I think I scared him off because we didn't talk as much after that. And I learned he pretty much flirted with every girl he ever came into contact with. Anyway, H and I started dating a couple of months later and the rest his history. The cheerleader married a band-geek instead of an athlete =)

  • In general, I had a lot of crushes, but I had 4 biggies

#1 Evan-Freshman-Sophomore years-popular, snarky, kind on an a-hole. We would flirt a bit, but that was all. He only dated popular girls (which i was definitely NOT)

#2 David(#1)-Sophomore-Junior year-super shy, on the swim team with me. We were both too shy to ever have done anything about it. Eventually, he started dating a girl who was pretty...um...popular with the boys ;)

#3 OMG. I forgot his name!- Senior Year-he was REALLY TALL. I mean like 6'5" to my 5'2". Very big into his church youth group. He worked in the food court. I bought a bottle of water from him EVERY DAY.

#4 David (#2)-Senior Year-my BFF's older brother. He was definitely into me. I know because she told me! He was totally geeky and cute. I started flirting with him and then, about a few weeks later, I met DH. And it was all over after that!

I have no idea where any of these guys are now. Well, as I recall, #4 is living in Monterey. Based on what I know about most of these other guys, they are probably all married with at least 1 kid by now. (Probably more in David #1's case. Pretty sure he was Mormon.)

  • I had a couple...

    1. Loved him since we were in middle school. He was quite and I never acted on it. We went to prom together and I think he was going to kiss me, but didn't. I still love him, in a friend way and we in contact via facebook.

    2. friends since elementary school, we started hanging out and dated a little right before graduation. But we were very different, his parents supported him and he got to be a teen, I was too busy working because I needed to support myself, so we were spending a lot of time apart. No hurt feelings, well...he has a few. We aren't in contact because he doesn't understand boundaries, but I hear how he is doing through mutual friends.

  • I am glad that my hs crush and I never worked out because we are much better off as friends. We don't talk much anymore except via FB, but I still consider him a good friend. I found out through another friend that my boobs intimidated him too much to go out with me. I still wonder if he is gay since he has never had a serious relationship, but I just can't bring myself to ask him such a personal question out of respect for his privacy.

  • it was my dentist's son (we were in the same schools grade from 2nd through 10th) ...  i tried acting on it to NO avail, we hung out in very different social circles although we both played basketball and had honors classes together.. honestly i have NO idea what he's up to now.

That's how tall my last HS crush was and at the time I was btwn 5'2"-5'3" (I was short until very late HS-early college when I had a growth spurt).
