Book Check in?
Did we miss the book discussion yesterday? I'm pretty sure it was on Tuesdays.
I just recently finished the third book in the Julia Spencer-Fleming series. (The series is about a small town police chief and a new reverend and their friendship which flowers through solving mysteries in town.) The third book I really liked because one part of the plot line stemmed back many generations, and so the book went back and forth. It really kept things interesting.
Right now I'm reading Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. Its about an Amish girl on trial for killing her baby (that nobody knew she even had) and her American lawyer. I'm about 1/3 the way through it, and it's amazing. I had a hard time putting it down yesterday.

I read like a fiend over last week/weekend! I read Mini-Shopaholic, which was ok. It was funny, but I was slightly disappointed in it.
The second book was Snow in August, and was about a Catholic boy in Brooklyn in the 40s befriending a rabbi & avoiding bullies. I really enjoyed the book until the end. It turned into a bit of a mythology/science fiction book- and I wasn't expecting that, at all!! There is a book club at my church, and this was their pick for the month.
And the third was a quick read- a Janet Evanovich book. I think it was called Wicked Appedite, and I think it's the first in a new series. Her books are always fun and her "heroines" are always someone you would want to be friends with, makes it seem like your best friend from grade school/high school/college.
And this weekend- I am avoiding books b/c I need to paint our bedroom
I've been reading a lot this week - I'm out of classes and my summer teaching hasn't started yet. That's not to say that I don't have work I should be doing, but alas, I've been reading anyway.
This week, I read:
Night Road - the newest from Kristin Hannah. It was good, but predictable. It was a quick read.
The Help - Loved it! Someone else on here recommended it, and I definitely support that. Read it!
Two Kisses for Maddy - I'm almost finished with this one. It is very genuine and moving (though he drops the f-bomb at least once a page, so the language might be off-putting to some). I'd definitely recommend it.
I loved Plain Truth, too. It's high on my list of fav Jodi Picoult books.
I'm reading Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen right now...I'm not too far into it and it's intriguing, but not totally catching my attention yet.
I just finished The Lake of Dreams by Kim Edwards. It was kind of the same way. A good and worthwhile read, but nothing I needed to stay up at night to finish because I couldn't put it down!

Loved The Help!
I am currently on Book 2 of the Big Stone Gap series by Adriana Trigiani. It is a really cute story about a woman in the Big Stone Gap area of VA. There are a lot of fun characters and relatable story lines. It's an easy read, which I certainly need at the end of a long semester of classes. I've also read Lucia, Lucia by the same author and really enjoyed it.
I just finished the third book in this series, Milk Glass Moon. It was a good book. I enjoyed the series actually a lot more than I expected. My mom gave me the books so I wasn't sure, but they are certainly easy and enjoyable reads.
Now I'm reading Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult. So far I'm hooked! I love all her books.
I know someone mentioned reading Janet Evanovich. I love her books! Such quick fun reads. Her normal books are the Stephanie Plum series about a female bounty hunter. They are super funny! Each book has the number of the book in the title (One for the Money, Two for the Dough...) There are 15 now! Anyway, I definitely recommend reading these!
I am trying to force myself to finish before I can re-read Something Borrowed, again before I go see the movie. The big motivator is that my friend wants to see that movie really soon so I need to get moving!

I love The Help and Plain Truth. Two of my all time favorites.
I am reading a real book: Lamb the Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Friend. It is a humorous book of Josh (Jesus) and Biff as they grow up. Very fun and thoughtful at the same time.
I am also reading a Nook book: Revolution. It is about a girl in high school who goes to Paris with her dad and is reading a diary about the French Revolution. It is a little more involved than this, but this is the simplest way to explain.
I am enjoying both.
I just finished Water for Elephants, and I loved it! I found it really descriptive - I felt like I was in the setting, not just reading about it.
I also loved Jodi Piccoult's Plain Truth. It hooked me on novels about the Amish. I've read a bunch of series by Beverly Lewis that I borrow from a friend.
I can't wait to read The Help since everyone raves about it, but my mother can't remember who she lent her copy to plus I have a GIANT "to be read" pile that I'm trying to work my way through so it will have to wait a while. I'm thinking maybe Pope Joan next. I'm trying to get through the books people have lent me before starting on the entire shelf of books I've purchased.
This is one of my all time favs!!! I mean, how can you not love a book that explains the origins of the Easter Bunny?? My aunt, who was a Canon Lawyer (lawyer for the Catholic church) loved it too! I like most of his books (Christopher Moore), except Fool. I met him last year and got his latest vampire book signed for my niece for her birthday. His first vampire book came out like 10 years ago... and when someone in the audience asked what he thought about Twilight, he just said "my vampires don't have to sparkle, they kick a** all on their own!"
I can't wait to get my hands on this one! I've been reading his blog forever. It's such a tragic, touching story.

I'm currently reading Fifteen Minutes of Shame by Lisa Daily. It's a chick lit book a friend of mine loaned me. It's okay, but not going to be one of my favorites by any means.
For those of you who have read and loved The Help: It was recommended to me by a friend a couple months ago. I too loved it, and she has now recommended that I read The Kitchen House. She said that anyone who like The Help will like this book, and it's somewhat similar in subject. I have downloaded it and plan to start it as soon as I finish my current book. I will let you all know what I think of it. Just wanted to pass the rec. along!
