Just got our housing assignment!
I am so excited to finally have the floor plan for our new place. It's bigger than I expected and should even have enough room for us to get a live-in nanny. Now I just need to actually get a job lined up!
Re: Just got our housing assignment!
Will your nanny be American or an Englis speaking Saudi? JW if there is a norm? How exciting!
Most likely neither. Very few Saudi women work outside the home and there aren't really any American live-in nannies. Most domestic workers are third party nationals from places like Pakistan and the Philippines. We're going to start by seeing if DH's SMIL has any family in the Philippines that might be interested in having us sponsor them for a two year work visa to come be our nanny. Hiring a nanny is generally even more complicated in Saudi Arabia than it is in the U.S. b/c often times it requires you to take over sponsorship for their work visa and you have to commit to paying to send them back to their home country if they decide to go back at the end of their contract.
Save as jpeg? If there isn't an option you just input NAME.jpeg and it should work...
Or take a screen print of it, pop it into paint cut the section you want to share and paste it into a new doc and save it as a jpeg.
HTH... Apparently I really want to see it haha.
Yay - very exciting! I'm sure seeing a floorplan makes it start to feel more "real" if that makes sense. For me, anytime I've moved, when I see a floorplan it's easier for me to start picturing myself living in my new situation.

Is it cheaper to have a live in nanny in SA than the US? I don't know many people here in the US with a LIVE IN nanny here, but then again I don't have many friends who can afford to.
The floor plan looks wonderful!! Is it an apartment or are you going to be living in a house? Are you living with the general population or on some sort of US base?
I can't wait to follow your big move!
Baby Macy is here!

Yeah, the only reason nannies are so common is here is because day care is so expensive that once you have two kids it doesn't necessarily cost more. Live-in nannies are cheaper than live-out nannies b/c they are willing to work for less since their room and board is included.
I think the place is a townhouse, but I'm not positive. We'll be living in the Diplomatic Quarter, which is where most of the foreign embassies are. It is like a mini city with about 30,000 residents within the city of Riyadh.
So cool, I too can't wait to follow your blog when you move!
I'm really clueless sometimes-- can someone tell me if there's a way to get it so that I get email updates when K does new blog posts? That's a thing, right? As of now I just have her blog (and some others) bookmarked in my favorites and I click on them when I think of it. Dumb question I know!
Me too please, if you don't mind!
How exciting! Congrats.
You could add the blogs you follow to a Google Reader and then just check that and it will show you all the updated blog posts.
Come on, Nicole. You really think I'm that big of a jerk?
She would get the bedroom with the private en-suite bathroom. DS would get the study. It's always the baby of the family that gets the shaft.
We aren't positive that we can have a live-in though. We've gotten conflicting information about whether or not having a nanny living with us would be considered the as the government subsidizing our childcare. The funny thing is, if we can't have her live in our unit, we can request to be put on a waiting list to secure separate housing for her which is closeby and also paid for by the government. Got to love that logic.
That's awesome! Great floorplan - I'm salivating over all that space.
Selfishly I can't wait for you to move so that we can start hearing all about life over there! I'm so intrigued.
Lauren - Google Reader is definitely the way to go! I follow a bajillion blogs and Reader is my lifesaver.

Done!
Your blog provides me the same enjoyment. I swear you're living the life I dreamed of when I was a teenager. I live vicariously through you!
I live vicariously through you both! I LOVE NYC blogs. One day I will go there..one day. & Kendra your kids are so freakin' cute, and I can't wait to read about your move and all your adventures when you are over seas.
Thanks, girls!
Kendra, I agree your kids are adorable and I think it's amazing that they're going to get to experience all this at such a young age. What an exciting childhood they are having!
