I assume you're talking about the school "allowing" the student to do a peaceful protest today where he intended to burn the flag?
I can't imagine this will be controversial over here in Switzerland. This probably makes me look like a total redneck but honestly, I hope he gets his ass beat by a group of fratties in a dark alley. Flame away.
If he feels that strongly about the US flag perhaps he should seek an education in another country.
FWIW, I don't think it happened. LSU granted him the permit he needed but he was supposed to also get one from the State Fire Marshal which did not happen. But I haven't checked WBRZ lately.
i think it is effed up to want to burn the flag that represents our country that gives us the right of free speech.
on another note, there is a ***-ton of crazyness on campus today because of it.
Really? I think burning a flag is a more blatant "f you USA" than not singing the anthem.

Yeah, I think the flag burning is worse, more of an in your face screw you type of thing than just passive non participation.
The First Amendment allows freedom of speech, which includes burning the flag. However, I completely disagree with it. I don't believe that burning a country's flag is a proper form of protest.
The protestor did not burn the flag. IDK if it was because he didn't get the permit from the fire marshal or if it is because of the reports I've heard of the "mob chasing him into a police car."
The flag is a visible freedom of everything this country stands for - and was created for - mainly, freedom. If you have such a problem with something in this country that you want to burn the flag, go for it. But it sure as hell better be in YOUR country, not here. And don't you dare try to come back.
The anthem analogy doesn't fit here. While 80,000 people may not sing the anthem at football games (which I respectfully disagree with) they are still participating in the anthem. They stand in respect, they are quiet, and caps are removed.

I just watched a video on Facebook of footage from today. The guy was trying to speak, and the crowd threw water balloons at him. I don't agree with that. At all. Counter-protest all you want, but don't throw things.

I completely agree that it's disrespectful to talk or not stand quietly during the pledge of allegiance or national anthem. Believe me, it annoys me too. I've been known to stare people down for doing either. But no way is it as disrespectful as burning an American flag.
And I know I said that I wanted him to get his asss beat but when I saw the youtube video and mob-like scene going on, it made me a little sad too.
