s/o gray hair.. Mine have arrived!

So I'm officially old.  The last time I dyed my hair was darkening it with a gloss for the wedding and now that it's been 7+ months it's growing out..  I have gray hairs coming in Embarrassed

I've had gray eyebrow hairs that randomly pop up, so I've been saying for the last year and half that if I stopped coloring my hair I'd likely have gray hairs.... yea.

My mom didn't have any until her late 30's and my dad had em in his late 20's.  My bro just got his once he hit the 30's.  I'm not even 30 yet and I have em.  Makes me a little sad.

Anyone else have any?

Boooo! Did you dye your hair A LOT?

I don't have gray hair yet. My grandmother (who passed away at 79) Didn't have a gray hair on her. Unfortunately I'm not sure about my other grandmother or my mom since they both always have/had their hair dyed. But so far so good.

Now as for my 24 year old husband..he's already starting to bald.

  • Ugh.  Yes.  I have a lot of them.  I get my hair colored every four to six weeks and by the time I'm due, it starts to look a little rough.

Let me tell you the worst part...since you have dark hair, you'll have the same problem as me where they don't just blend in.

    It sucks.

  • I've actually always had a few grays, even as a kid.  I did Glamor Shots photos when I was 12 and the girl doing my hair mentioned them...I think that's the first time I noticed.  I've definitely had a few more since the wedding, but I've never colored my hair.  Mostly the grays are underneath and I yank the most visible ones.  It still makes me feel a little old though :(
  • I've dyed my hair quite a bit in about a 7 year span, but never back to back or anything.  I've always waited a few months in between as to not damage my hair.

I mean it's only about 6-7 strands so far, but that's the beginning of the end if you ask me!

I'm 34 and I have a TON.  Thankfully, since my hair is sort of light, they don't show up TOOOOO much.  But I've had them since my early 20's.

Hey, you never know!  My sister (who is seven years older than me) had maybe 2 or 3 greys since she was in her twenties.  Now that she's 36, she's just starting to get more.  So there's hope for you!

Mine, on the other hand, came in full force.  Guess my sis got the good genes!

  • Megan, that's what freaks me out!  I basically have black hair so these bad boys catch the light and shiiiine.  I feel like they may as well stand up straight for how easy they are to see!

  • I have had grays since college I think.  They are not too noticeable yet, but I hardly remember my mom ever not having a mostly gray head of hair so I worry that they will rapidly be taking over.  I had a stylist tell me a few years ago that I didn't have so many that he needed to use the special dye for gray hair....umm thanks?  Thank goodness hair dye exists though!

Oh, yeah, that's the other thing I should tell you.  They are often a very different texture than your regular hair.  My hair is straight and fine.  The greys (for the most part) grow in kinky and stand up straight.  It's hideous.

Hopefully you have better luck, but I've heard this is pretty much par for the course.

    Fun stuff.

  • Oh yea they are definitely more course than my normal thin/fine hair.  So far they aren't kinky or actually standing up lol

Happy to hear its all downhill from here!! Wink

  • I've got some gray ones too... even though my hair is blonde, I can see them!! I get my hair highlighted every 2 or 3 months.... I want those puppies covered up!! I hate that they are all squiggly and a different texture too... blah!!

My hubby is only 28 and is starting to turn super gray!! Ekk!! His dad was basically white by the time he was 35... His dad looks VERY old, but he isn't. It's all because of his hair. I told my hubby he should die it - his natural color is black.

Anyone heard of guys dying their hair??

I don't personally know anyone (that I know of lol) that dyes it, but there's all kinds of products out for men now too!  Some guys are creeped out by it but it's really not a big deal at all.  They even have those "blend" ones now, I can't remember the name.. but where it fades most of the gray to dark but leaves a little in so it looks natural.

  • DH dyes his using the blending one. He has fairly dark hair, so it would be pretty obvious if it was all dark on his head lol. He's not balding though, I'll take gray over balding!

My brother is 26 and started balding in his early 20's. In 6 years I've probably seen him without a hat 4 times. Even coming out of the bathroom after a shower he'd wear a hat. Weirdo.

  • Funny enough Brooke, the hat is probably the main culprit of his baldness.  That's what "they" say about guys who wear hats all the time anyways.

Both my dad and C's dad have a full head of gray hair.  My dad's hair is naturally black and he dyed it once back in the day but it looked so unnatural.  We cracked a few jokes and then he decided au natural was better.

Fortunately, I haven't seen any of myself yet.  But C has several already and has gotten more since being with me. Ha!  He likes them and said he's earned every one. :)

My hair is light-ish and highlighted, so I haven't seen any yet.

Chris is a red-head and his Uncles who have red hair have all gone super blond/white in their old age.

I don't have any gray hair...yet (I'm 26), and I am hoping it stays that way for a long time.  My Mom dyes her hair now, but I believe she didn't start getting little grays until her late 30's and still doesn't get too many.  Her hair is also darker than mine so they would stick out more.

Jason on the other hand, who's 26 too, has lots of grays.  I happen to find the salt & pepper look really sexy, like it's on of my biggest turn ons (I know, weird lol) so I love that he has some gray.  He said if it gets too bad he'd be totally fine with dying it since I think they kind of bother him but until then oh baby oh baby Devil

  • Mike doesn't have a single strand of gray or any sign of balding.. but he's also still a youngin' so it doesn't really count lol
  • I have some grey's and started getting them around 23ish. I get my hair colored about every 6 weeks so no biggie to me. My sister always feels the need to point them out to me, like I don't already know that they are there.

    Fun stuff.

I've found a few (maybe 20ish?) in various locations of my hair. Let me tell you, I yanked those suckers out with tweezers before the wedding. Stupid things with different texture, color, and the nerve to stick straight up. Ick. Was NOT going to have them visible, even in the most close-up picture. LOL at that vanity...

I'm not as much a nazi about plucking them anymore, but they still irritate the crap out of me and I'll occasionally decide they have to go.

Charlotte from Sex in the City looked at her pores; I look at my scalp for grey's....

  • I have alot (well not tons- but for somebody my age (23) I think I have way more than normal). I started to notice them when I turned 18.

I am a big worry wart- so I blame that.

I actually pulled a really gray long one out at work yesterday. They are so weird bc they are way stronger than other hairs lol.

I have never dyed my hair- but I will need to start soon if they don't stop multiplying they are like bunnies!

DH is balding- it runs in his family.

Between him and me our children would be doomed. Good thing we aren't planning on any. lol
