I got a thank you card today at my office. It was addressed specifically to me, not the firm, and not "attorney." Me, at my firm name and office.
It had an absolutely wonderful handwritten note in it thanking me for my support and for making this woman strong, telling me that I was wonderful both as a professional and as a person, and that it's rare to find both in one human. I don't remember the exact wording, because I forgot to bring it home to show E, but it was so nice, I actuallly teared up. It's been a really long time since I got a card like that; when I was solo recently I had hardly any clients and with my last firm, they didn't get clients that nice.
The problem? I do not AT ALL recognize the name on the card! I went scouring my computer files to find her, but nothing. All I can think is perhaps she's using a maiden name and I'd remember her married name because it was a divorce case? No freaking clue. I feel terrible! I made that much of an impact that I warranted a card that makes me cry, and no bells are ringing for me. I have to ask my secretary tomorrow, but I'm really embarrassed.
Re: I'm kind of horrible
Don't be stressed out about it. A similar situation happened with a former student I enrolled at the college I worked at. You will figure it out and then all the sudden think "OMG-Duh I know who this is!"
Glad you are making your clients so happy! You are a fabulous lawyer!

That's so nice of the lady to write that nice card. I'm sure you'll remember soon. Don't feel bad. It happens to the best of us.

No, been crazy busy all day. Showed two secretaries the card and neither one recognized it. I haven't shown them the envelope yet, but the handwriting on that sucks just as much. Grrrr!
