I have an unhealthy relationship...

...with donuts. Probably one of the worst things to have a bad (or good?) relationship with...maybe bacon would be worse? Or just eating shortening out of the tub?

Anyone else want to have a food confession today?

Re: I have an unhealthy relationship...

  • Dude. Seriously, get out of my head. I have been dying for donuts recently! While I haven't actually given into the temptation yet, I did request my father get in touch with our family in Bangor and track down the recipe for Campbell's chocolate glazed donuts, and I have all intentions of succumbing to the craving and picking up a dozen (or 2...) this weekend @ Ma's Donuts under the guise that they're for my FIL who is visiting. Devil

While not a specific food, I spent all of last weekend shamelessly eating everything decadent I could get my hands on: twin lobster rolls, fries, pasta, eggs benedict the BEST French Lobster Quiche I've ever had (!!!), Hagan Daz and strawberries, you name it! Ironically, according to my Dr's scale, I only gained 2lbs. since my check up last month, so hollandaise on everything it is!

  • I've been eating a cupcake from Nolan's party every day with my morning coffee.  My rationalization is that it's better to eat it in the morning to have a better chance of burning the calories throughout the day.   I also discovered "Blazin' Buffalo Wing Almonds" today.

    I flipping LOVE hollandaise sauce.

This was my thinking with the donuts. Although I just ate one from a meeting that just got out. Maybe I should do a couple squats??

Quick- you, me, a vat of hollandaise and a pile of extra crispy frites, meet you in five!

I am totally on board with the eating things earlier in the day, and I think swinging around that little love of yours will be more than enough to burn off any calories!

  • I brought in dount holes for a group of students today and only 6 of them were in class...therefore I ate 5 or 6 so myself.

My real food confession is that I got a box of Joe Joe's from Trader Joe's on Sunday and I cannot.stop.eating them!!

  • I am addicted to carbs- crackers, donuts, bread.

  • Food confession ... ooh, where to start.

Welch's Fruit Snacks. They're supposed to be fuel for long runs, but if there is a box in the house I cannot stay away.

I'm obsessed with sweet potato fries.

    Bacon.

Ice cream. Matt and the little dude are ice cream fiends and I have indulged too many times with them.

Greek salads. Which would be okay except for the over-abundance of feta.

  • Me and donuts are tight.  Real tight.  Actually me and food are tight at the moment.  Maybe that's why my pants are tight at the moment.

My husband eats Joe Joe's like it's his job.  I'm pretty sure he loves them more than he loves me.  When we have them in the house it's all I hear about.  "I love Joe Joe's."  "I ate some Joe Joe's at lunch today."  "I had a dream about Joe Joe's."  "Can I have your wedding band back?  I'm thinking of marrying a cookie."  Sheesh.

ETA: Shug, that's a great photo.  Abe is about the cutest thing I've ever seen.

  • Donuts sound so yummy. I have fallen off the wagon from WW over the past two weeks.

My unhealthy relationship - Peanut Butter, straight from the jar. I am not kidding when I tell you I go through a Jar a week. When DH goes grocery shopping I let him get it once a month (letting him believe it lasts that long), but I sneak out to Hannaford once a week and get it for work.  Speaking of that the jar at my desk is almost empty.  Time for another PB run soon. Embarrassed

  • The Nutella I bought Monday night is now almost gone (Dh has hardly had any) because I go home and eat giant spoonfuls of it out of the jar each night. Hey, I figure it's healthier than buying a chocolate bar or something on the way home, right? So yeah, tonight I'm finishing off that jar of Nutella and maybe having a couple handfuls of the chocolate chips I bought to make a healthy granola bar  recipe (which I never made). Come on 4:00!!!! Stick out tongue

  • I love Cadbury eggs.  Seriously love them.  From the time they're in the stores in late winter until Easter, I probably average eating a four-pack a week, sometimes more.

This year I found four-packs after Easter at Mardens for $0.39 each.  I bought twelve boxes (four dozen eggs).

  • After eating a steak with mushrooms and bleu cheese, homemade potato chips, and sauteed kale w/ garlic & grape tomatoes for dinner, I still managed to put away 6 or 8 chocolate ebelskivers for dessert, all filled (one with a mini reese's peanut butter cup).  Oh, and three glasses of wine.

I should be running in place right now.

Wow. I'm coming over for dinner when we move back in June. That is one of the greatest sounding menus I've heard in a long time!

  • My unhealthy relationship right now is anything sweet.  I prefer each meal to include something chocolate, baked, frosted, or in candy form, although I've been ok about not making that a reality.  My usual sweet craving of snickers has been magnified by pregnancy (I'm blaming it on pregnancy anyway) and I buy one every time I see one at a check-out.

It's gotten so bad that I talked DH into making belgian waffles for dinner tonight and I plan on burrying it in syrup and whipped cream, and maybe a little nutella (thanks MIB).  Good thing I ate my veggies at lunch.

  • prosecco, cava and any other type of sparkling wine...it's seriously gotten out of control

    avocados

    pita chips

    french onion soup

I used to have a serious dessert problem, but looking at this current list, things seem to have shifted.

I can't remember who mentioned the ebelskivers, but we make them all the time at the inn for breakfast and we have yet to have any guests know what they are beforehand.  We actually had one couple love them so much that they bought us the chocolate mix from Williams Sonoma as a gift...we haven't used it yet, though they sound amazing!

  • I um, have been known to eat an entire 1.5 pounds of bacon by myself. As a meal.    Embarrassed  It was so bad at one point, that when my rugby team ran hills at the end of a training session to round out our fitness regimen, my coach used to dedicate one of the hills to running off the bacon.

I also have a love affair with cheese (especially melted) that is practically biblical. I would leave my husband if it were legal to marry cheese.

And don't get me started on bread, pasta, carbs, and sauces (ESPECIALLY hollandaise/bearnaise).

  • I love frosting - I could just sit down with a spoon and a tub of funfetti frosting...oh wait, I have done that before. I always want the corner piece of cake, as long as it has the sweet frosting - if it has that whipped kind, I'll pass on the cake.

And I am about to go out for Tex Mex and have a margarita, a basket of chips and queso, and some tacos. I am excited.

  • I have more unhealthy relationships with food than I'll probably be able to think of and list here. I guess the big ones are...

Butter. I use way too much of it in everything I cook and if I have to melt it, I often run my finger around the inside of the container it was melted in and lick it off. Probably related to my obsession with butter is my obsession with cookie dough. I basically have to sample it after every new ingredient addition. I will often make cookie dough (sans eggs) just to eat it straight from the bowl.

Mayo. I put so much of it on my sandwiches and in my chicken/tuna salads. And lately I've developed an insane addiction to the chicken salad sandwiches at Pizza Joint. I've had one for dinner 3 times so far this week. SO BAD.

Cheese. I think if a doctor told me I had to stop eating dairy or I would die, I might choose death. A life without melted cheese is not a life I want to live.

I've stopped asking myself why I can't manage to lose weight.

  • I'm going to rank my lovers.

    1) Cake

    2) Brownies

    3) Whoopie Pies

    4) Doughnuts

    5) Bryer's Reeces Peanut Butter Cup Ice cream.

    6) Cookies with any sort of chocolate in them.

    7) Soft Sugar Cookies with frosting

I could totally go on...  Obviously I have a sweet tooth. :)

With each dessert, I have a big glass of milk.  I say that I need my dessert to make sure I get my calcium.

At my first appointment with the midwife, I almost threw a temper tantrum.  She said that she recommends to all newly pregnant moms to watch what they eat, lots of fruits/veggies/organic stuff.  I was nodding along.  But then she said to limit dessert to once a week.  "ONCE A WEEK?!  NO WAY." And she said that a small piece of chocolate once a week was a good plan, because it would still satisfy my sweet tooth.  I was mad for weeks.  Thankfully I gave her another chance because I ended up really liking her.  But I was about ready to walk out the door and never come back after that dessert comment.  And for the record, I ate dessert every day throughout pregnancy (like usual)...and I didn't gain over the recommended amount.  And I'm at my pre pregnancy weight...still eating dessert daily.
