I'm sorry - this is one of the worst parent of the year awards in my honest opinion.
Did you see this segment Good Morning America today? I didn?t, but I came across this clip on Styelist and I am totally floored. Not only does this mother admit to waxing her 8-year-old daughter?s legs, but she injects her daughter?s face with Botox, too.
Ordinarily, I?m pretty ?to each her own? when it comes to parenting
decisions, but my initial reaction after I watched this piece was that
her daughter should be taken away from her. I know it?s harsh, but I am
just so horrified that a mother would inject her own child with Botox.
Here I am worrying about my daughter?s bottle containing BPA and her
baby wash being filled with phthalates, but this mom is literally
injecting botulinum (yes, the same stuff that gives you food poisoning)
into her daughter?s face. How could you not be appalled?
In the interview, Lara Spencer asks 8-year-old Britney Campbell why she
was getting the Botox injections. Her response? ?Umm, I don?t know.? I
would like to say I?m sure this mother has the best intentions, but I?m
not so sure. Kerry, Britney?s mother, says she started doing the
injections because other pageant mothers were pointing out her
daughter?s wrinkles. She goes on to justify the injections by saying
she?s not the only mom who does this. I?m sorry, but there is nothing
another mother could tell me or a prize so incredible that I would risk
my daughter?s health and safety by injecting her with botulinum. Is
winning a pageant really that serious?
I?m also somewhat taken aback that Kerry is even allowed to inject her daughter with Botox. Maybe she is a medical professional, but are all those other moms that Kerry referenced docs, too? Where are they getting this Botox and what makes them qualified to inject it into their children?s faces?
In my mind, this story is just wrong on so many levels. Safety issues aside, what is Kerry teaching her daughter about her appearance? You?re ugly if you have wrinkles? Beauty above all else? Am I the only one who is completely outraged by this? Share your thoughts in the comments.
