Shower Question/ Opinion

So, for my sisters shower I'm throwing a tea party (For my pintrest followers, you know it's a Mad hatter Theme). Anyway.

I've rented a hall, I have it for the entire day. I have the whole day from 9-130 or so to be in the building before people show up at 2 or 3 for the shower. So I can decorate etc. The hall has a kitchen (fridge and stove)

For food, I keep thinking I want to do a caterer but for the prices I'm getting I feel like there won't be enough food. (14.50 PP before taxesto do tea sandwiches and salads and sodas). Should I just 'suck it up' and spend my saturday cooking and my sunday setting up  and rewarming food for 40 people? And then I can make all my sisters 'favorite' foods (lemon chicken, marinated mushrooms, swedish meatballs) or should I bite the bullet and get catered?

Just looking for opinions.

Re: Shower Question/ Opinion

  • Can anyone else help you in the food prep/cooking?  Maybe some of the other BM's can help with a dish or two? I've never hired a caterer so I honestly don't know what prices are average. My mom and grandmother will cook whether I ask or not, lol!

  • Where is the event?  Do you need suggestions for other caterers..For family events I frequently use Nino's out of Coventry...They Deliver, the food is great and the prices are more than reasonable.   Ask for Charlie and you can tell him Annmarie from Couture referred you., I would see what you could get from other caterers before spending a whole day cooking and being responsible for the outcome of the food.  I am sure you will have other things to do that day too.
  • i would just cater it. then you can enjoy the party.

can i have your lemon chicken recipe?  :)

    ditto on both counts :)

if you lived closer to CT, i'd suggest stew leonard's. for christmas 2009, we had everything but our prime rib & dessert from stew's. so easy, so good, and the cost was not much more than we'd have spent making fried shrimp, mashed potatoes, stuffing mushrooms, etc...

  • It's my mom's recipe for lemon chicken. LOL I'll get it and post it seperately. Looking at Ninos (Who I didn't find BTW googling caterers) their hot and cold buffet is exactly what I'm looking for. :)
