i booked a hotel for Philly for Memorial Day and I don't think the plan is very good. We need an overnight to get some practice on traveling with the kids because we'd really like to make some trips to FL, CA and Boston that are longer - and none of our trips with Ava have been great.
We have a professional photo shoot in NJ Saturday morning. I assume we'll be done around 11am, and then we can leave for Philly from there. First - I think it's a lot for me to pack up that morning for an overnight and get us all dressed for the photos and be on time for 9/9:30am. Second - we'd be arriving in Philly around 2 or 3pm. it's a little too early to check in and it's too late int he day to go to the children's museum, and the museum doesn't open until 11am sunday which means we all morning to do nothing.
we think it's better to drive to philly another saturday morning - go straight to the museum, stay overnight and head home sunday - without timing around the photos.
we'll be heading to boston some time this summer to stay at my sister's new home, and again when her babies are born in aug/sept.
where can we go that isn't too far, isn't too expensive and has kid-centered activities for memorial day weekend.
we prefer the saturday to sunday travel, since the roads usually suck on monday.
Re: overnight "trip" suggestions
I don't know how expensive these places are but what about going to PA for:
Great Wolf Lodge
Sesame Place
The Crayola Place
Mystic CT for the aquarium and seaport? Or the Norwalk aquarium is closer and you could also go to the beach. Not sure that the Norwalk aquarium is a full day activity though.
we spent a few days in mystic last summer, and we went to the norwalk aquarium this winter.
i like both, but we need something new!
we hated sesame - lol! no way am i going back until sam is 3 and gets her turn there.
maybe crayola.
i looked into great wolf a while ago - i think i want them to be older for it. looks awesome!
Well since those are our plans I don't think it too much, then again I will be there from Thursday but Jack will be spending Friday night in the hospital. I will be dealing with a cast on his arm also, but we'll deal and if he really is bothered (last time nothing phased him) we'll just head back.
ANother thought...Jersey Shore?
Doing Point Pleasant for the day and coming home?
I kindof think your original plan would work out fine.
Even if you don't get to the Please Touch Museum until 3, it's open til 5, and I know most of my young nieces/nephews couldn't last more than 2 hours, even in a "fun" museum like that.
Then you can head to the hotel, check in and chill out for a little bit before heading to dinner.
The Philly zoo might be fun for Sunday morning, as it opens reasonably early and I think they have a children's zoo area inside it too.

We're doing the Zoo on Sunday
The Crayola center is great for kids (My nieces love it), and in addition they share a part of the building with the National Canal Museum, http://canals.org/ , which also has a set up by the river where you can ride the boat and what not.
