Holy smokes, batman! This took forever! Since we moved home, the goal was always to move out of the ILs house ASAP and get a place of our own. We wanted our own house. That was sidetracked by the bank that DH's student loan comes from not reporting any up-to-date information to the credit bureau. Super fun stuff.
Yesterday, DH and I got an e-mail saying that the bank has finally reported (after a 2-month long battle with them) to 2 of the 3 credit bureaus and the mortgage broker will accept that to pre-approve us for a mortgage!
Hallelujah! 
However, FIL is our realtor and he's going on vaca for the next two weeks so we can't look at houses just yet, but we're going to take the time to gather some places up and the second he gets back, start looking for a home!

You could always go to some open houses in the mean time and if they ask you about representation, just tell them you have a realtor all ready.
