Maybe it's just the day, but I'm annoyed

We've been invited to the wedding of DH's cousin, whom I don't think I've ever met.  It's in LA, so it's probably a 2 hour drive for us.  I am annoyed by this because of a couple of things:

1.  It's on July 2.  Who the F has a wedding on July 4th weekend?

2. Because I will very likely have to work the next day, we are planning to just drive up and back on the same day.  But, the wedding doesn't start until 6pm.  Which means a very late night for us.

3. Because the wedding will be late at night, I'm guessing it will be fancy.  Joy. And it's also at a museum. And the invite was fancy.

4.  We have a yearly tradition of spending July 4th weekend on a boat. Because of this wedding taking up the Saturday, and my work taking up Sunday, it looks like we'll hardly get any time on the boat.  I am not happy about this.

5.  It's DH's family, which automatically annoys me.

  • That is frustrating...

Is there any way you can get work off?

  • I wish I could get work off, but that isn't going to happen.  This is a pretty big show coming in, and I think all of us will be working.  Actually, working on that Sunday was the "big compromise" to any of us having to work on the 4th of July.  So at least I'll have the actual holiday off.  But spending one day on the boat is a far cry from spending a whole weekend there.
  • I once went to a wedding that was actually on July 4, which that year was a Sunday. I made sense for people traveling, since they'd have Saturday and Monday for travel, but it was annoying to me. There were things I'd rather be doing on July 4. In this instance it was even more annoying to me because the groom, my friend, had a ridiculous habit of purposely snubbing secular holidays, so I felt like he did it on purpose to force us all to ignore the holiday too. At any rate, I feel your pain but hope you end up having a ton more fun at this wedding than I did at my friend's!
  • Who gets married on a holiday weekend? #2 and 3 would be annoying in themselves but #1 and 4 just make it ridiculously annoying.
