Looking for summer vacation recs
Hi ladies. I know this board isn't very active but I'm hoping someone can help me out.
We're looking into summer vacation options and time is running out. We're completely flexible about when we go, but I don't know where to go.
Red Jacket Beach Resort was recommended, but it's $$$. I don't know if that's normal for the Cape in July/August, but since we don't have much experience with the area I was hoping to get some recommendations.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Looking for summer vacation recs
So do you want to vacation in the general New England area or are you looking specifically for Cape Cod recommendations?
The Cape in summertime is very popular. You might look into B&Bs instead of resorts, but I don't know the Cape super well.
For outside of MA, North Conway, NH might be a good option. For the kiddo there's Storyland, and the area has tons of hiking and general outdoorsy stuff to explore (drive up Mt. Washington). There's also a small outlet area to shop in. Surprisingly good food in the area, too.

I was thinking this as well. My partners family goes up there every summer and we usually stay with them for a night or two. (We also have friends who own a beautiful home in Kennebunk, so we usually stay with them for a few extra days.) That area has a lot to do. Portland is a nice day trip from Kennebunk/Wells.
You could also consider Hampton Beach, (although I know very little about that...)
The cape is usually rather expensive during the summer.
I wouldn't recommend Hampton Beach. Especially not if you're thinking Cape Cod - Hampton is pretty much it's polar opposite, while still being a beach. Think Jersey Shore-esque, only more run down. It's fun for a day, but otherwise? No. Newburyport is nice. Gloucester/Rockport, too.
Everyone else had good suggestions, but I'll add the Mystic, CT area. There's the aquarium and the Seaport, the casinos, and you're close to Newport, Block Island and some beaches.
Yeah, the Hampton Beach strip is really pretty gross. There's a private beach a couple miles up that is GORGEOUS, but it's all homes and I'm sure there are no rentals available at this point and it would be lots of $$.
Thanks for the suggestions! Maine is out (we had a nightmare of a vacation there last summer, even though I used to vacation there with my family when I was a kid) and the Cape is definitely out of our price range.
I really appreciate your help.
Wow, that trip must have been really awful to nix the entire state of Maine!
I agree with the North Conway recommendation. Story Land and Santa's Village will be great for your daughter. There's Outlet shopping for you and lots of outdoorsy stuff if that's your style. Hotels range everything from the Red Jacket to the Comfort Inn.
