So I'm part of a team of people making one-layer no-sew fleece tie blankets in baby Sofie's honor. First up are small ones for the fundraising walk on June 5 to raise money for the Akron Children's Hospital (ACH) where Sofie stayed. Then after that the goal is to make enough bigger blankets so that every baby in the ACH NICU gets their own blanket. Then we have loftier goals of every baby in the hospital getting one but that will take some time.
So I need help ladies - I need cheap fleece, preferably cute kid prints, boy, girl, neutral, doesn't matter. Just cute and cheap. I found some to make the smaller ones to hand out at the fundraising walk but for the NICU blankets I will need a cut about 34x34 to make a 30x30 blanket. I found some on fabric.com, and of course I can use my Joann's coupons, but was wondering if anyone else has a great source for cheap fleece. I'll be in RI next weekend so I can do a local place too if you know of a great local fabric store with cheap prices.
Thanks ladies - I am so incredibly excited to finally find an outlet for all these emotions I have over Sofie, and to be able to do something so incredible in her honor. The woman organizing this has tags for each blanket that say "Made with Love and a Butterfly Kiss from Team Sofie." Incredible. I love it. What an amazing idea.
Re: Crafty ladies help! I need cheap fleece print fabric!!
There's a mill in the Wakefield/Peacedale area that makes/sells fleece - I think they have remnants for super cheap. I'm pretty sure it's Kenyon Fleece (not the grist mill). I don't know exactly where it is but I'll try to find out from my sister.
I want to say it's at 1425 Kingstown Rd, Peacedale, RI - but I can't be sure.
I'm no help for finding cheap fleece, but just wanted to say, check with the hospital first (I'm sure someone already has, but it's just 1 of those things that is sometimes forgotten) to be sure they accept those donations form individuals. A lot of hospitals don't. BUT blanket donations can be made to 'Project Linus' and I'm pretty sure you can specify which hospital you'd like to get the donation.
*the NICU where N was, does not accept individual donations of blankets, but they do accept clothing donations. All the babes in the NICU got 'Project Linus' blankets (N's is a quilt and what made me cry hysterically was that there is a fabric w/ ladybugs on it and ladybugs had been a symbol to us throughout my pg).
Thanks Diana for the store recommendation!
And yes, the hospital we are working with does accept donations from individuals. The person coordinating all this works there and has already talked to the hospital about the plan. So it's a go! My fabric already shipped that I ordered this morning, and I treated myself to some cutting tools as well since I think I will love this project so much I want to spread more of the love through Project Linus and other places too!
