Embarrassing, sappy confession
Every two years when I vote, I always have a moment where I get a bit emotional about it. Not the idea of any particular candidate winning, but just the pride of being able to vote (the idea that lil' old me has a say in what goes on), and being proud of my country giving the people a say, as flawed as the system can be.
I was a government major in college with an emphasis on American government, and am an attorney, so obviously I have a vested interest.
But I don't think you need this background to appreciate the blessing of days like this.

my read shelf:
That's very nice of you, and thank you for inviting me! I suspect I have come off as more liberal than I really am simply because of the particular issues in play this year and my disgust with the state of my party. If we were having this election in another year, I might not seem so "reasonable" to Obama supporters.
I loved standing in line with all the other voters--I felt such a sense of camaraderie. It's so exciting! If my candidate of choice doesn't win I will be bitterly disappointed, but I'm still so heartened by the big turnout this year.
And ditto zoegirltx-- it's great having you here, IIOY!
I'm totally sappy this year, and I'm not even crazy about the guy I voted for!
This was my first general election voting in person, and I enjoyed it!
